Which Taxi or Transportation company is reliable for Washington Dc?
 

Hi Everyone My name is Abu, and I am planning to come to Washington Dc for a road trip and I have already bought a flight booked for this coming month on https://www.tripadvisor.com/. I have seen Washington Dc before but since it has been a while I totally forgot which transportation company is very reliable for me and for our families for touring. We need about 3 hours or 4 hours touring and since we are on a budget we need a reasonable price. I have done quite a research online and looked up a few Taxi Services like http://www.dctaxiservice.com/ and touring companies. They offered us I can say a good affordable price specially DC Taxi Service. I would appreciate if someone who has quite good experience who lives in DC can help us if these companies are trust-able and dependable. We would appreciate as well if you have further more advise for us, we are so open for suggestion. Thank you again and see you DC. I am so excited.

If you are on a budget you will be better off using public transport and your feet. The whole mall area is walkable.

You don't need a tour service for DC -- it is easy to explore with your feet, the metro, and taxis when necessary.

Some foreigners feel more comfortable with drivers and tours, I think. HAving said that, I have no idea what you are wanting a taxi service to do. I thought all DC cabs were the same basic company, I know they all have their cars painted the same color nowadays (red and black). I just take what is there when I need one (say at a train station or airport). For a private car service to/from airports, I've used dcmats.com and really liked them, but they aren't for just driving around the city.

I have never heard of hiring a taxi service to give a tour, so not sure if that's what you mean or not. I do have a friend who gives private tours and is licensed, but he specializes in certain types of clients, do you have some language requirement?

I have not heard of dctaxiservice.com so can't comment. They do not appear to have flat rates, I have no idea what they are. I tried to get a quote for IAD to Union Stn as I know dcmats charges around $70 for that. They came back with a quote of $117 in "light traffic". I would never book them solely based on that quote, their fares are too high. dcmats.com is a flat fare. Even for a regular taxi, I think $117 is too high.

For tours, I guess I'd just use viator.com if you don't have any special language requirements, it's always worked for me in other cities and should list most local operators. But you don't really need a tour just to visit some of the main sites and museums right around the Mall, there are a lot that you can get to by walking or the Circulator bus or metro, if necessary. The DC tourist info office gives lots of ideas about various tours you can do, many on your own

Pretty sure the OP is not a 'foreigner' since they have US passports (per another thread - which is also about taxis. )

Abu, you might want to differentiate~do you just need transportation around DC, or are you looking for guided tours?

I've always just used the Metro to get around in DC. I've spent a fair amount of time there on my own and with my family and found the metro combined with an occasional taxi to be sufficient for most things I want to see as a visitor.
