which side of the plane coming into Honolulu?

Which side of the plane should we sit flying into and back out of Honolulu?
Thanks

I think the right side of the plane going in as I recall. They loop around past Waikiki to get the path to the airport. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am mistaken. I haven't flown to Honolulu for awhile.

Hi artnkar, I was thinking the right side of the plane is best also although like crefloors it has been awhile. Enjoy Hawaii!!

Yes, when I flew to Oahu in March, you got views of the island from the right side of the plane on arrival. Not sure on departure, as I was in the center seating section of the plane and couldn't see anything.

Not to confuse the issue, but it seems to me that the best views are on the left side of the plane during landing. Since the prevailing winds mostly come out of the northeast, the planes will typically come in from the west or south-west (depending on the runway being used). Honolulu airport has 2 east-west runways and 2 shorter sw-ne runways. Not sure if major jets use the shorter runways or not - we
ve always come in on the longer ones. In any event, a standard approach to any of these landing strips should (and has in my experience) given the best view on the left side. The right side in this case will be looking out to sea.

Actually - a clarification. The best views during FINAL APPROACH will be on the left, the earlier part of the approach will depend on what direction the plane is coming from.

On our approach from Seattle we did come into the island with a clockwise loop, giving the best higher-altitude views on the right side. Not sure if that is typical though (but it sounds like it may be from the other posters). Where are you flying from?

we are flying in from the east coast.

I have flown into Honolulu at least 100 times. The view depends upon the approach which will vary according to to winds and runway availability.
