which SF Chinatown tour??
I am trying to decide which Chinatown tour to book!
they both offer the same types of locations and activities on the tour as far as I can tell they are the same price they both offer dim sum at the end they are at the same times/days any reviews and feedback would be appreciated! thanks!! the two I am looking at are: Wok Wiz - http://www.wokwiz.com/tours/index.html All About Chinatown - http://www.allaboutchinatown.com/tou...ule_prices.htm |
How about a free tour and then going to have dim sum on your own?? I bet it will be a big difference in $$$
The San Francisco Public Library offers wonderful, free tours. http://www.sfcityguides.org/desc.html?tour=8 I would bet that the restaurants the tours you listed take you too are not the best, but are connected to tour. You can get recommendations for restaurants - we like City Views for great food and prices. http://www.yelp.com/biz/city-view-re...-san-francisco They are always busy with locals and lots of Asian Americans and I take both of those as good signs that they offer good quality, fresh food. If you have never had dim sum and think you will be overwhelmed, and that's why you want to do a tour with food included, it is really easy at City Views. They come by with carts, tell you what everything is and you pick what you want. It is priced by the plate, they keep a tab on your table and you pay at end. DH and I usually spend under $25 for the two of us, and that's with a beer and tip! Deb |
I just looked at those links - neither says what restaurant. There are some really tacky places in Chinatown. I looked at the menu for the second place; it is pretty boring offerings. You don't even get to pick what you want to eat.
Think about the free tour and they having a way nicer meal on your own. Deb |
then having [not they having]

Deb -
thanks for your posts! I really like your idea I actually thought of trying to come up with my own walking tour pieced together with ideas from guidebooks, etc and then dim sum on my own as well. But your free tour posting looks awesome! as well as the restaurant recommendation. any idea how long the free tour lasts? it doesn't say on the website. thanks again for the great idea! |
Deb -
never mind! I just read in the FAQ section that most tours last 1.5 to 2 hours thanks again! |
If you have time, try to do some of the other tours that they offer - we did Cityscapes and public spaces and the Victorian homes tour. We also did the free City Hall tour, which we really liked.
We are heading back to SF in January for a week. I am going to try and get in as many SF Library tours as possible- it is the motivation for this trip! If you ask on here about Dim sum, you will get 1000 different favorites! It's been done before [type dim sum in the search above and see what happens]. Deb |
I did the SF City Guides tour of Chinatown. It was excellent and detailed.
