which sections of the subway are disrupted?
 

In planning my trip for next month, I wanted to map out which subway routes I would be taking. Can you tell me where the lines now end and which stations are closed because of Sept. 11?

The subways are a little messy these days, yes due to 9/11 but also due to maintenance work being done on the Manhattan Bridge, which affects a buntch of lines.<BR>The easiest to list is the Westside IRT, or 3 lines; they suspended the #9, and now the #3 is the only express, except it only goes to 14th st...best bet if you take that line is just to always take the # 1 ; it stops at all the stops, although in the Financial district, it replaces the #2...<BR>like I said VERY confusing & don't get me started on the 6th ave line...<BR>the D has changed, the E, F, B, N, R ..and there are several new trains, the V, Grand St Shuttle, and one other one.<BR>NOT worth plotting before your trip; all previous maps are kinda usesless, in fact, the MTA is now printing a MONTHLY 1 page map, because of the changes. If you must, checkout the MTA's website for the most complete info,but it WILL be cofusing. <BR>Best advice; ASK for help! ;)

Just some additional info:<BR><BR>The Eastside IRT is relatively unchanged; don't forget to get a metrocard, either the $4 daily pass or the weekly pass, depending on how long you are here. The best thing is they allow UNLIMITED rides, AND TRANSFERS between subways & buses.<BR>Even with all the changes & confusion, it's STILL the best way to get around Manhattan during the day

The #1 and #9 used to go to South Ferry.<BR>The #1 now goes to Brooklyn and the #9 has been suspended. Cortland Street, Rector and South Ferry stations which were serviced by the #1 and #9 are closed and will remain closed for a long time. <BR>Cortland St. station was under the WTC.<BR>Indicate wbere you will be staying and where you will want to go and instructions will be provided.

I just took a two day class in the financial district and would advise against taking the #1 train to that area if you're traveling during morning rush. It makes an incredible number of stops because it's a local. I tried taking the 2 or 3 down - was made to change at 14th Street and then the 1 train we boarded at 14th stopped at Chambers and we had to change again! From the west side it's easier to take the A or C down and get off at Nassau Street or from the east side just get the 4 or 5 express.
