Which Second City show?
We will be visiting Chicago this summer and I was thinking it might be fun to take in a Second City performance. My kids are ages 22, 20 and 17. The current shows are A Clown Car Named Desire; Review: Let Them Eat Chaos; Summer in the Second City; Best of Second City; and Improv All Stars.
Has anyone seen any of these particular shows? Would you recommend one over another? |
I have not seen these particular shows, but I have seen both scripted and unscripted shows by Second City. I find the unscripted improv shows to be much funnier because you never know what they will come up with (and neither do the actors!) I would choose the Improv All Stars.

This may be silly, but are there age restrictions? Liquor laws or content of shows??

Here's what's on the Second City FAQ's:
"Is there an age requirement? We allow anyone 10 or older into the theater. Our shows contain adult content and language, the shows are the equivalent of an R-rated movie, so we recommend them for ages 16 and over. Also, in Chicago, minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian when coming to the 11pm shows due to curfew laws. For more specifics regarding content and age-appropriateness, please contact the Second City Box Office in Chicago at 312.337.3992 or in Toronto at 416-343-0011." We took our kids to one of the improv shows when they were 16 and 13 years old. Neither I nor they were uncomfortable about the content. In fact, we remember how funny it was. |
The high school takes the AP Art History classes to Chicago every year - they are juniors and seniors - and the trip always includes a visit ot Second City. So I think the content will be okay. (Plus, good or bad, we've let our kids watch SNL for years.)
