Which route to cody?
We are traveling up I-90 to the Ranchester/Dayton exit. Which route is best as far as scenery, etc. to Cody: Alt. 14 through Lovell and Powell or 14 through Greybull?
We had planned to go north through Red Lodge and go in on the Beartooth Highway but don't want to risk it since the huge mudslides. If we wait until the last minute and the road is not open, it will be almost impossible to change our dates in Yellowstone. |
14A is definately the most scenic.

Yeah, I wouldn't plan on going on the Beartooth Highway! Take a look at the damage pictures!

we will also be cancelling our trip from Yellowstone to Red Lodge, MT via the Beartooth. Should we instead spend the last few days of our trip in Dubois or Cody? We're already doing 4 days at Grand Teton.

Suekush: I have been to Cody before & it is fun -- Rodeo, Buffalo Bill Historical Center. I am only visiting Dubois for the National Bighorn Sheep Interpretive Center. Is there another reason to visit Dubois or is it just for the scenery?

We drove both routes last July. Headed west on 14A and the views were spectacular. Found some places to play in the snow. The drive down the west side is VERY steep, but again great views. Route 14 has the Shell Canyon Waterfall area on the western side and is scenic, but not as good as 14A.
