We drive between Michigan and MInnesota quite often and have taken both the Milwaukee route and the Madison route and I strongly suggest the Madison route. Both take time while in the Chicago area but it is much shorter going to Madison dorectly from Chicago thru Rockford. We often stay in Madison as there are a large number of hotels there but also can suggest some of the large hotels around The Dells. Have a great trip.

Yeah, fishing is about the memories. We take a trip to the high-desert area of California with my parents each summer just to make more (memories). My son almost caught a huge trout there a few years back. The pole was bending clear into the water, but it was just too much fish for a little boy - so the fish got away. He might have caught it with his grandpa's help, but Gramps figured it would ruin fishing for him for life if he didn't catch it on his own - plus he'd always think he didn't accomplish much when fishing if he didn't catch a big one. We're looking forward to fishing someplace so completely different, and just spending time making those memories. My dad isn't getting any younger, and he has Parkinson's now so we want to make each vacation with him count. Thanks for the tips.
Do you have any suggestions as to which zone to bid for a hotel in Madison?

We're now firm on our arrival at MDW. I've got the rental car reserved and decided to stay at the Residence Inn Madison East, rather than go the Priceline route this time. We still want to kill some time with dinner (will really seem like a late lunch to us) somewhere close to the aiport so that we can avoid some of the traffic. Any restaurant suggestions as we leave MDW headed towards Madison??

Less than a mile to the northeast is Szalas, featuring traditional Polish food and atmosphere. It's right on Archer, which will connect you to 294; you'll take that north to 90 for Madison. Do a search for Szalas and see if it's what you have in mind. You might consider reposting with "Dining near Midway Airport" in the title.
You are smart to kill some of the evening with an early dinner. Traffic should be much better after 6:30.
