Which route from Springfield Mass. to Manhattan?
We've been given two different routes by the AAA to drive from Springfield Mass., to Manhattan.

Route A takes us on 91, changing to 84 at Hartford, past Waterbury, Danbury, then to 684 past White Plains, then 95 past Bronx, and across the top of NYC to the Henry Hudson Parkway and into Manhattan.

Route B has us on 91 to 95 via New Haven, Bridgeport and Stamford, then 87 to Yonkers and into Manhattan. There is a note that there are road repairs in effect from New Haven to Bridgeport. Is this accurate?

Which of these two routes would those in the know recommend?

Thank you for any assistance.

I've been using AAA's Route A for many, many years with nary a problem, although I take Sawmill Parkway to the Henry Hudson...

I'd go with the first suggestion. Coming from Boston, thats the way we go. I-95 traffic can be pretty bad sometimes!
|
Definitely Route 84 to 684. It'll save a half hour (not even considering traffic tieups!).
|
Thank you all very much for your unanimous advice! Greatly appreciated.
jm

I assume this means that you are going to the west side of Manhattan? I'm surprised no one asked before giving advice. If you are going to the east side then this is the wrong advice.

Tom, if you read his original posting carefully, you'll note he mentions ending up on the Henry Hudson Parkway. So, one can only assume that he wants to go on the West Side.

I do -A- when I go from Vermont to Jersey,
But make one change.
South of Hartford (still on 91) ,
I get off at exit 18 ,onto 691, which is a short tie-in to 84, and then 684.
This route bypasses the oldest and worst part of 84!!
You can not get lost if you take it.
And it is definately more pleasant.
Nancy
