which Ritz - Dana Point or San Francisco?
 

Hi!
We are thinking of going to San Francisco area and have two free nights at a Ritz. I think the Dana Point Ritz is about 45 minutes from the city but looks amazing. ANybody experienced both? I would like to have both the beautiful locale and respite of point and the see some of the city too. We only have three full days and one partial.

The hotel in DP is a resort. San Francisco is not, in regards to the grounds, a pool and the ocean. Do you want a citified hotel or a resort on the ocean? Both are wonderful hotels. Just think about what kind of experience you personally desire.

The Dana Point Ritz is in Southern California, Laguna Niguel, which is about a 7 hour drive from SF.

I think you mean the Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay. I wouldn't stay there if you have any notions of driving back and forth for sightseeing in San Francisco. It sounds like you have 4 nights total...spend two in the city and two at the Ritz in HMB

The Ritz in SF is a far superior hotel to Dana Point (Laguna Niguel) in my opinion. The service is superb. I thought the Ritz in Laguna Niguel was no where up to the same standards. There also seemed to be many non-hotel guests wandering around in the halls, looking at the view, etc. which was a bit annoying.

Not a huge Ritz Dana Pt. fan either...

Just reread your post. The Dana Point, which is really Laguna Nigel, hotel is in Southern CA. It appears you meant Half Moon Bay. We've stayed at both. Half Moon Bay is lovely and remote. in regard to location. It's sure not a place to stay if you want to be touring SF most of the time. It's a place to go when you want to be away from it all and stay in elegant surroundings with beautiful ocean views.

I have stayed at all three of the Ritz and I think they are all just fine. If you are going to San Francisco I would just stay downtown. No real reason to stay at Half Moon Bay unless you want to get away from the city.

Right. No reason to stay in Half Moon
Bay. It is more of a getaway from San Francisco for the locals. There isn't much to do there, unless you play golf. San Francisco is a good choice.

I agree with previous posts -- San Francisco for sightseeing; Half Moon Bay to get away -- it's lovely, especially if the sun is out, and right smack on the coast, but it is definitely "away" and not a touring center, except for coastal towns like Half Moon Bay and nearby areas.
