Which one should I pick and why...Monte Carlo, Luxor, Tropicana or Flamingo
Going in December, so swimming not important. Going to see Mystere, but don't have to stay next door. Just looking for experiences with general decor, rooms, service, etc. Thanks

What age group are you in and what are you looking for out of this trip (ie- gambling, dining, sightseeing, etc)... that will help answer the question more appropriately.
Also, have you been to Vegas before?
Without the above, i would suggest Monte Carlo as it's the newest hotel of the group with a good location (Luxor is too far out of the way IMO if it's your first time in Vegas and you want to "see the sights."

Stayed at The Monte Carlo the end of December several years ago. The pool was very nice. Heated and comfortable. This is in answer to the swimming pool question below. I do not know about other hotels. I have stayed at The Monte Carlo twice and it was fine. Stayed at The Tropicana years ago, but I think "Paris" or "Balleys" might be better.

Some properties keep their pools open year-round.
This site lists hours and "season" for most hotels: http://www.vegas.com/resorts/pools/
Best to confirm with hotel though when u make a reservation to make sure that pool will be open during your stay and no construction going on at the time.
Tropicana has a "covered pool" for the winter months and is the only strip hotel that i know of that has anything close to resembling an indoor pool.
Generally speaking, pool weather begins some time in May.

The Monte Carlo is the best of the options given. The Trop is old & not very nice, but cheap. I've not stayed @ the Flamingo since their renovations. As others on the board I would suggest - Paris or Mandalay Bay, you can still get good deals w/out paying Venetian or Ballagio prices.

"Generally speaking pool weather begins sometime in May.."
Ummmm, not true.
I've gone to LV the 2nd week of March each of the last 10 years.
Some years it's already 80's, some years days are as low as low 60's.
BUT, there are always pool days in mid March, and by May the temps are already at 100!!
Transition time is late March.
April is very predictable overall and >80% of days are nice for the pool.

We stayed at the luxor and hated it. It was this big, huge maze and very dark and dreary. We really felt like we were in a tomb. The restaurants were terrible, if you could find them and the people in the casino looked like death warmed over mummies. We gambled and ate elsewhere.

Here is some more info, going with a buddy, only for 36hrs (Sat-Sun) so not much sightseeing. Just time to gamble a bit, have a nice dinner before the last show Sat night, gamble & lunch Sun before leaving. Been there once before, great rate at mirage. Friend wanted to stay at Excalibur, but I saw the other thread, everyone said not to stay there. These hotels had comparable rates, $129 for Sat night. I'm leaning towrad Monte Carlo, as 4 star, the others 3. Thanks
