Which of these is the best restaurant?

I want to treat my brother and sister-in-law to an elegant holiday dinner the weekend before Christmas. Price is not an issue but good food and well dressed patrons is important.I am hoping there might be some holiday decor and maybe even something to do afterwards that would give us that holiday feel. Can you tell me which of these would be best (or add your own recommendation)1.)Portland City Grill 2.)Paley's 3.)Heathman

artjoanne, you may want to repost with the name of the city in your title and in your post.

We had a beautiful dinner at The Heathman a month ago. It is pretty pricey, but the chef does make it well-worthwhile. The ambience is great and there is also a nice wine list. Try to remember to share a bottle of Patricia Green Cellars savignon blanc...it was a "very nice drop". The dining room is elegant and quiet and I'm sure that the gorgeous library room will be appropriately decorated for Christmas. Call & ask!!

The "well dressed patrons" criterion is a crap shoot in Portland, regardless of the restaurant. Of the three, you have the best chance of that in Portland City Grill, then Heathman. But IMO, Paley's has the most innovative and best food of the three. Heathman is very good too, just maybe less surprising. Portland City Grill food is good, but if not for its location, probably couldn't compete with the other two.

If dress were less a concern, I might suggest Carlyle or Hurleys. I might suggest them even with the concern about dress.

ali25, I love Patty Green wines. The Peerless in Ashland serves one of her Pinot Noirs that we really enjoyed. Wildwood also serves PG wines. :)

artjoanne: Paley's Place is very good and would be an excellent choice for an elegant meal with your family. I'd get my reservation in soon for the weekend before Christmas. Cheers! ***kim*** ((f))
