Which of these Hotels in Portland?

Of these 4 hotels--Westin, Governor, Marriot waterfront, Hotel Deluxe which would you pick? I will be coming in town for an event at the Memorial Coliseium the first weekend in December and in my last posting was told I didn't necessarily have to stay in that area, the Rosequater area.Any advice? Thanks in advance.

I would pick the Westin. Best location of all of them, IMO. Only about a block to Max for you, and right in the heart of much of the city.

Of the hotels you name, I have stayed at them all except the Deluxe. Therefore, if these were my only four choices, I would stay at the Deluxe to see if it's better than the other three.

The Monaco (formerly 5th Avenue Suites) would be my first choice.

All of them are good choices (Deluxe excluded, only because I am not famiiar with it) I Ageee with mms that Westin is in the heart of the city and close to MAX. If you have a car any of them are great. The waterfront is beautiful. Have you considered the River Place Hotel? It is on the waterfront and there is an ambiance that is incredible down there.

I was just at the Monaco and think it's one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in. The beds are incredibly comfortable, the staff extremely helpful, it's walking distance to most sights, and they serve free wine at cocktail hour in the lobby...I can't wait to go back!

Well, I've stayed at DeLuxe, but none of the other three. Liked it a lot, but because of location, I think you'd prefer the Westin and Governor. The waterfront Marriott should be at the bottom of your list.

I'd steer clear of the RiverPlace too, if for no other reason than location. To get to the Coliseum, you'd first need to hop on the streetcar, then transfer to MAX. Or, walk the 10-12 blocks to the nearest MAX stop.

The Westin is in a great location ,smack in the middle of downtown..typical hotel rooms..
The Governor is a grand old hotel..not been in any of the rooms but hear they are also typical.
Marriot waterfront..I would not stay on the Waterfront at all.
Hotel Deluxe was close to my home, location is ok, beachbum showed photos of the rooms and they looked very nice ...
No, don't stay at the Rose Quarter!

Of these, I would stay at the Westin or the Governor.

Meanwhile..the Lucia, Vintage Plaza and Monaco are all good too..if you want more choices :)
I have stayed at the Monaco about 30 nights in all, never been unhappy with them.

hey mms I was just rereading all the posts and I noticed your 1st one about the Davis Cup possible not being at the Memorial Coliseium and my reply to that are missing. Why do you think it was taken off?

Fodorite018 Oct 15th, 2007 02:42 PM

Mo--I have no idea...that is odd. But I see that the Davis Cup will be here for sure, so that is good news!

Fodorite018 Oct 16th, 2007 12:01 PM

Mo--Did you get tickets? We didn't:( They sold out in under 30 minutes!

Mo Oct 20th, 2007 09:01 AM

mms I feel lucky we were fortunate enough to get them. We're members of the USTA so we got access to tix 5 days earlier than the general public. While still on the phone giving info the better tix sold out and that was within 17 minutes so we dropped down to the next level. which my wallet is kind of glad we did.Maybe more tix will be available the day of the event. Don't give up mms. We chose to stay at the Westin and I thank everyone with their help. The posting that I thought was missing mms is on my other thread titled help with Portland trip. Thaks again everyone.

Mo--So happy for you! I haven't stayed at this Westin, so can't comment on the rooms and such, but the location is great. The restaurant onsite, The Daily Grill, is also very good.
