Which Marriott
 

My husband and I will be in DC at the beginning of March for a weekend. I need to stay at a Marriott to use points. We are deciding between the Marriott at Metro Center, Washington Marriott on 22nd street and the Wardham Park Marriott on Woodley Rd. Our main goals of the trip are to go to the holocaust museum and a few of the monuments/museums, nothing in particular. We are young and would also like to go out for a fun/nice dinner, possibly Georgetown area. The JW Marriot is not an option for this trip, although many of you say it is nice. Thanks for your help.

The Wardman Park Marriott is probably nicer. It's right at the Woodley Park-Zoo metro station. The Marriott on 22nd Street would be okay too, but I'm partial to the Wardman Park and there are a lot of good restaurants within a stop or two (either direction) of the metro station there.

We liked the Marriott Metro Center -- it's literally steps from a major Metro station, as the name implies.

I am a very frequent Marriott guest because I my business travel. I've stayed in every Marriott in DC many times over. In my opinion, the Residence Inn in Dupont Circle is better because there are many options at night for restaurants. You can walk around quite easily to many great restaurants.
The JW would be my first choice, but you've alreayd ruled that out.

For sightseeing, Marrior Metro Center is more convenient of the two hotels you listed. Although considering your entire post, I would also recommend that you two stay in Dupont. Dupont Circle has more dining/fun options than G'town and is also convenient to the Mall area by Metro (or foot in 20 minutes). In fact, the block of P st with the Residence Inn has some of the best eats in DC (Pizza Paradiso, Johnny's Half Shell, many others) FYI - Here's a map of Dupont: http://www.stationmasters.com/System.../dupontci.html

If you can use the Residence Inn, that would be fine, otherwise I would probably choose the one at Woodley metro. None is terrible, but I would put metro center last for location. I think that is practically next door to the JWMarriott, though.

The one at Woodley is right next to the metro, lots of good ethnic restaurants and a short walk across the bridge to Adams Morgan, a good restaurant/night life spot. I don't know which one is nicer inside myself, I'm just picking on location. I think the one at Woodley is just as good a location as the one at Dupont Circle.

I don't know why people on Fodors are so obsessed with Pizza Paradiso, I see that again and again -- it's a good pizza restaurant, but nothing that unusual.

In answer to your question, each property really has its' own personality. This Residence Inn has a very motivated staff and they go out of their way to assist you.
While it does not have the all of the same amenities as a full service Marriott, it does offer free breakfast and a free manager's special every business nite which often could substitute for dinner - like pizza or lasagna or hot dogs and hambugers.The rooms are nice and the hotel is quite clean. The best feature is the proximity of many great restauarants at nite that you can walk to safely and comfortably. It's a short walk to the metro.
