Which Mammoth Cave Tour???
 

Can you give me any thoughts on the tours at Mammoth Cave?

I've read that the frozen niagara area is the most interesting in the cave. We do not need a tour longer than 2 hours.

I'm currently looking at 2:
1. Frozen Niagara Tour (formerly Travertine Tour) 1.25 hours limited availablity only 26 tkts left. Res. says "Easiest tour offered"
2. New Entrance Tour (formerly Frozen Niagara Tour) 2 hours. Larger tour (over 100 tickets) 280 steps... more strenuous. Also sees New Entrance, Roosevelt's Dome, Silo Pit, Grand Central Station, Big Break, Fairy Ceiling, Flat Ceiling, Frozen Niagara flowstone formation, Frozen Niagara Tour Route

I'd like my kids to feel like they've been to Mammoth Cave... would tour number 1 give that?
But how is it with 100 people? would the more private tour 2 be better? is 2 hours and 280 steps too miserable?

With the tour directly to frozen niagara... do you get to see it better? even though shorter in total time... is it longer time in the best area of the cave? (does new entrance tour rush through this area?)

Most of the steps as I recall are right at the beginning & end. Also, don't forget to take a sweater or light jacket as it is chilly once you are inside. You kids will certainly remember they were in a Cave. I won't spoil any surprises, but the tour guides do typically have a few tricks. Personally, I'd take whatever tour was smaller (people-wise).

Both are great tours. I do think that most kids have a more memorable experience in smaller groups. The guides are great and work hard to make sure everyone gets the most out of their visit.

The steps are not a big deal for most people. They are usually part of entering and exiting.

My personal favorite has always been the historic tour, but I've visited many times. (only live about 30 minutes away)

If your kids are old enough do the Wild Cave Tour. Can't be beat.
