Which LAX Hotel to stay at
We are flying to LA from Australian October. We will be spending one evening in LA before catching a Virgin America flight to Seattle from Terminal 3 the following day. We basically want somewhere decent but not too expensive to stay and relax before catching our flight. I noticed there are plenty of hotels in in and around the LAX vicinity so I was hoping for some recommendations if possible. We aren't to fussed about sightseeing around LA as we have visited a few times before and are happy to chill at the hotel.
Many thanks |
>> not too expensive << could mean almost anything. What is your actual budget?
But I like the Courtyard -- very close and free shuttle |
Sorry say up to about $200 Per night.

Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo.

To me airport hotels are all pretty much the same, a place to sleep either after a long flight or the night before a flight. Depends on when you arrive and when you have to leave the next day. We stayed at one of the Sheratons at LAX last spring, and it was fine - good shower, comfortable bed and breakfast before our morning flight. I believe they had a shuttle down to Manhattan Beach for people with some sightseeing time to spare, or time for a dinner away from the hotel. Also, a taxi or Uber to Venice Beach restaurants is possible. I would put your dates into Expedia or similar, see what comes up and look at a few reviews. You would get a better sense of pricing for October too.

mlgb nailed it. THe Hilton Garden Inn in El Segundo would be my choice.
There are other good choices in El Segundo. There are restaurants, bank, stores at the intersection of Mariposa and Sepulveda Blvd, so I would look there too. As far as the hotels on/near Century Blvd you would want to stay west (airport side) of Airport Blvd. You don't want to stay east of the 405 freeway, i.e. area 10 on Priceline for a search using LAX as destination. |

Standard rooms, some with ocean view, are within your price range in October, one block from the beach, free use of beach chairs and strand cruisers (bikes). Hilton Garden Inn is nice also we used to put business clients up there, it was a block from where I worked. Not too many good restaurants within walking distance though. Not much in the immediate airport area on Century as far as dining although you could take the Ocean Express Shuttle to Manhattan Beach for $5pp. |
$200 for a one night chill LAX hotel? No, not me. Bid on Priceline for LAX, $90 tops 3.5 star and $100 for a 4 star
Worse I got was the Renaissance, and it was fine for $78 |
In April we stayed at the Residence Inn in El Segundo. They feature a free airport shuttle, free wifi and a free breakfast.

The Aloft Hotel in El Segundo is newly renovated and located 2 miles from LAX. It's under your budget, and way under your budget if your single night is on a weekend. Across the street is a Starbuck's, a grocery store with a takeaway deli and an In 'n' Burger. Within two blocks are several moderate eateries like Chipotle, Habit Burger, Malibu Fish Grill, etc., or you could taxi or Uber to downtown El Segundo for some rather good non-chain options.
http://www.aloftelsegundolax.com/ I'd rather stay at this location than anywhere on Century Boulevard. |
booking.com says the Aloft Hotel offers free shuttle service, although I didn't see it mentioned on the hotel's website. I would email the hotel to confirm.
|
Is that the old Hacienda Hotel, Jean? The name isn't familiar.
|
Yes, partly. The old Hacienda was in two buildings, and the Aloft is the (somewhat) newer building, completely renovated. The older original building is still under renovation and will eventually reopen as a Fairfield Inn & Suites.
|
That Aloft is a great location at Mariposa and Sepulveda. Good to hear it is not the old Hacienda any more.
|
Just noticed the error in my earlier post. The Aloft is across the street from an In 'n' Out Burger. That said, I prefer Habit Burger a couple of blocks away.
