Which Key West hotel?
 

I think I've narrowed it down to these 3:

1) The Inn at Key West
2) Fairfield Inn
3) Doubletree Grand Key Resort

We're staying 3 nights; have a 13 year old and my husband won't go near a B and B. Any thoughts on these places?

Oh my gosh...none of the above! Stay in Old Town! The places you mention are all on Roosevelt, and WAY away from the heart of Key West. The beauty of Key West is that if you stay in Old Town, everything you want to see and do (tourist activities, sunset celebrations, restaurants) will be within walking distance.

none of above. Stay at Casa Marina or the Hyatt

The Casa Marina is under major construction and reviews mention at lot of noise, inconvenience and one of the pools being unusable.

Stay at the Pier House.

If price is an issue, the Southernmost Hotel is cheaper than The Hyatt and the Pier House.

The Casa Marina is offering $129 rate all summer because of the construction.

Are the hotels I mentioned really that far away from it all? Inn and Doubletree both have shuttles, and one reviewer said I could catch a bus for $1.00 from Inn. Casa Marina does get spotty reviews and looks shabby compared to Inn at Key West. Cost is key. I"d like to not pay over $200 a night.

Yes, they are all a little bit of a distance from the action. Look at the Best Western Hybiscus or the Southernmost. Pier House is O.K. but it also has some construction going on for the next few months.

I'd definitely check rates for the Best Western Hibiscus and the Southernmost Hotel. Both get excellent reviews and are in a MUCH better location.

My wife and I stayed at the Doubletree about 3 years ago and found it completely satisfactory. We would stay there again; and cost is not a major issue with us. However, we are not "party hardy" people, and we really prefered not being in the Old Town action. It is about a 10-15 minute drive to the Old Town area. There was a shuttle from the hotel, but I do not think that we used it. We did not find parking to be a major problem; however, we were there during the Thanksgiving holidays, and that may factor into it. I remember seeing the Fairfield Inn, and its location seemed to have a lot more road traffic than the Doubletree. I do not recall seeing the Inn at Key West. Of the three you name, I recommend the Doubletree, and based on our experience, I have no misgivings about that recommendation.

Pier House has a small private beach that your son will enjoy, and the location, 1 Duval Street, is the best.

If you try the Pier House, ask for a "construction discount." I just got back and did.

Pier House has renovations going on and even with that I don't think you will get a rate under 200 there. There are lots of other places to stay instead of spending your hard earned money staying somewhere while renovations are going on.

Even if you aren't party people, you need to stay in Old Town to get the true Key West experience. I would also consider one of the Inns such as The Island City House or Simmonton Court. I do not like B & B's at all but when in Key West I stay in an inn...they are not typical B&B.

Yes, I agree. Stay in Old Town! I highly recommend the Eden House.

La Concha is right downtown, reasonably priced, and we found it more than adequate.

This post is over a year old...I assume the OP has already visited Key West.

semoash is one of those poor souls who doesn't know how to read. She (he) registered here for the sole purpose of advertising that edenhouse dump they can't fill any other way and can't afford real advertising for -- and then couldn't even read the rules that advertising is forbidden here. Kind of sad, isn't it?

Especially those who do it after registering here just to advertise!

Loved the Doubletree. The shuttle got me to as much of Old Town as we needed. We had a 13 yo at the time too.
