<<...within 20 minutes drive you are in the middle of nowhere. We have been on plenty of beaches in Oahu where you may not see a single person the whole day!>>

Perfect conditions for having your car broken-into which is not such a rare occurrence on parts of Oahu.

I'm also curious, was it always on weekdays that you found the beaches that empty?

I've heard that during the weekends the beaches are more crowded because of local residents visiting them.

You won't have any problems seeing 2 islands in 10 days.

Much more to see & do on Oahu than any other island:

My husband and I just went in October for our honeymoon. We were on Maui for a week and Kauai for a week. Maui has SOOOOO much to do and see. We easily could have spent 2 whole weeks there. Kauai is beautiful as well, and also has a lot to see...but it is not nearly as clean as Maui and the people were not very friendly, as they do not like having tourists coming to their island. We went to one "beach" on Kauai called Glass Beach. I have never smelled anything so horrible in my life. This beach used to be an industrial dump. Definitely not a sun bathing beach...but it is interesting to see all the rusted auto and industrial parts fused to the lava rock. To tell you the truth, most of the beaches we saw in Kauai had lots of litter. Pretty nasty.

I'm all for Maui!!!!

Shalu, I see that you've only posted on 3 threads so here's my recommendations on "Must see, must do"....
1. try clicking on the link dusty provided you.
2. Try doing a search using the search box in the upper right corner there, and you will find tons of threads on Hawaii and/or the island you are going to select.

Any one who says that Maui is the most scenic has never been to Kauai. Kauai has spectacular beaches as well as mountains and canyons that are beyond breath taking! I think Oahu has some of the cleanest clearest water I have seen. How the beaches look also depends a lot on the weather. Try to go in the summer or early fall for the best beach conditions!

Went to Maui and Kauai last year. Both amazing. But I loved Kauai...Best beach, Hanalei Bay.

jazphoto, Judging Kauai's beaches based upon an experience at Glass Beach is not exactly fair.

Did you go to Polihale? Lumahai? Anini? Makua (Tunnels)? Hanalei Bay? Hideaways? Moloa'a? Secret Beach? Ke'e?

billaaaay,
Sometimes due to it's remote location Kauai gets it's share of trash from foreign trawlers who dump their crap over board.

Lydgate was a trash heap of old fishing nets and other junk.
I was afraid to walk in the surf due to the trashy debris.

But, I've never seen it anywhere else on Kauai. Maybe it's an East Shore thang'?

Scenic in a way you'd picture Hawaii in your mind, Kauai. Although if someone said "pick one, you're leaving tomorrow", I'd choose Maui.
