Which island in Hawaii?

My husband and I would like to return to Hawaii in March 2005 to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We were married in Maui in 2000... on Kapalua Bay... and we stayed at the Hyatt-- very nice... although we didn't love the beach. We're not sure where to go this time.... want to stay at one hotel the entire time... and will only have 7-8 nights. We're open to any island. We'd like a place with a nice beach and beautiful pool... where we can relax. We're not majorly into sightseeing.. more into relaxing and having good meals.

Any suggestions? We'd definitely go to Maui again.. but are wondering about the other islands. Any info would be appreciated. Also.. looking to spend $500-600 per night for a room... can't afford any higher.

$600 per night is enough to get you in just about anywhere along the Big Island's Kohala Coast. Four Seasons, Mauna Lani, Mauna Kea, Hapuna Beach Prince, Orchid etc. These are self-contained resorts, and a few have wonderful beaches (especially Mauna Kea and Hapuna Prince). However, except for the Four Seasons and Hapuna Prince the pools are either plain or downright disappointing.

Another consideration is dining options, which compared to Maui are more limited on the Big Island. Each resort has its own set of restaurants, but if you want to go elsewhere, driving times range from 15-45 minutes.

I thought the ferries weren't starting until 2006.

never mind, i was just thinking ``super ferry'' and forgot about the others. that's a nice option -- although I think the super ferries look great too.
