Which is the best luau on Kauai?
 

Anyone have suggestions with the best luau on Kauai for adults. It will be just be my husband and me, no children.

My husband and I went to Smith's Tropical Paradise for a luau on our honeymoon, and we enjoyed it. It was rather homey, had a cute musical review during dinner then the Polynesian show in the theater afterwards. Nice garden and grounds. I thought the food was rather good. I enjoyed this one more than a huge luau I had been to on the Big Island a few years earlier. Have a wonderful trip!

Oh gosh, I have been to them all. Multiple times, LOL. <BR><BR>Smiths is a dinner, then a show. The audience moves from the open air dining pavilion to an open air ampitheatre for a Polynesian revue. It's a good show tho the performers are kinda removed from the audience. <BR><BR>I really like Coconut Beach Resort's luau. It's held in a permanent open-air luau facility but guests stay in their same seats for the dinner and the show, which seems more intimate in my opinion.<BR><BR>The only luau on Kauai that is actually on the beach is at the Marriott, once a week in the summer. The Princeville Hotel luau has a partial ocean view but is held near the pool, not on the beach. <BR><BR>The hotel luaus (Marriott, Hyatt, Princeville) seem kinda banquet-like to me since they don't have permanent luau facilities. <BR><BR><BR>

One more thing.....Nobody goes to a luau for the food. The buffets are OK but not gourmet by any stretch!<BR><BR>If you and your husband are celebrating a special occasion and are foodies, I suggest a lovely meal at nearby A Pacific Cafe in Kapaa. You could have a superb meal before or after Smith's and attend the &quot;show only&quot; which starts at 7:30 ish and costs only about $16 vs the $65 or so for the whole shebang!

Smith's has the lush tropical gardens, water features, peacocks (yes!), good traditional food, good traditional entertainment. It's definitely the favorite with island residents.

Hyatt is lu`au is indoors (ugh!) -- not very traditional with their food or their entertainment.

Coconut Beach Resort is now Courtyard by Marriott -- lu`au hut is on the grounds of the hotel, adjacent to the parking lot. Haven't been there since the recent changeover, so can't comment on the menu. Entertainment is by the professional statewide entertainment company, Tihati Productions (same as Hyatt).

Princeville Hotel lu`au is small (fewer than 100 guests), excellent food (both traditional, and &quot;visitor-friendly&quot;), and a pretty good local entertainment group. What this one has going for it that none of the others do, is the _fabulous_ sunset view across Hanalei Bay to the mountains and Makana (aka &quot;Bali Hai&quot;). If there's been recent rain, you can count waterfalls, too. Ahhhhhh! :-d
