Which is the best Luau in Hawaii?
I'd love to hear your opinions on the best Luau you have attended. There are sooooo many to choose from and, since we ate only planning on attending one, I'd like to choose a memorable one.

Thanks for your input!

Lisa, I hope you won't mind me asking a luau question of my own:

Are luau's even worth it? It seems so hokey and touristy to me...will I be missing anything great if we decide to skip the luau thing altogether?

Don't pass up the Old Lahaina Luau in Maui. My husband & I Honeymooned in the Hawaiian Islands in Sept.'2000 & were very impressed with the show. You may have to book ahead of time (even though we didn't, but got lucky).
Second vote for Old Lahaina Luau. I was there October and they were great. You must book this ahead of time! IMO a luau is a must do in Hawaii. Where else are you going to try poi and see a pig roasted in the ground. They also have demonstration of crafts before the show starts. This one is very authentic. There are no fire dancers, just the history and story of Hawaii from the beginning to present day. See the web site http://www.oldlahainaluau.com/

Old Lahiaina is the only authentic luau. You have others that are fun if you want fried chicken and chocolate cake at 40 bucks a pop.

What about Waikiki? My first time. Any recommendations?
|
Waikiki I would hit Chinatown's Seafood Legand, Kincaids near Alamoana, Roy's in Hawaii Kai, south end Waikiki W hotel restaurant michel's. Great food on Oahu I would not skip this for the luaus that are offered there. If you want to taste authentic luau food cheap head to Ono's a 2 minutw drive out of Waikiki. INCREDIBLE Brunch AT THE ORIENTAL MANDARIN in Kahala
