Which Hyatt in DC?

Due to redeeming points for a stay, I have choice of either the Hyatt Regency Capital Hill on NJ Ave or Grand Hyatt Washington on H St. (Park Hyatt not an option).

Which one is more convenient to public transportation or walking to get around for sightseeing, restaurants, etc. I will be traveling alone so safety is a key factor as well.

Will also be spending time exploring outer areas as considering relocating to DC.

Would appreciate any feedback from those familiar with DC and the two properties.

Thanks

I have stayed at both hotels in the past 3 months. The Grand Hyatt is much, MUCH nicer and newer, and seemed to be in a safer location. Hyatt Regency may be a *bit* closer walking to the sights...but not by much. Both were close to public transportation. Definitely go for the Grand.

Both are convenient to public transportation (Metro). Hyatt Regency is a few blocks closer if you are WALKING to the Mall, but I would subway from either. The Grand Hyatt is a nicer property and is closer to more restaurants. In particular, 7th St. bewteen I St. and D St. has a lot of restaurant choices in all cuisines. There are also many Chinese restaurants along H St. between 7th St. and 5th St.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Capital Hill. We were able to walk to all the sights. However, we ventured back to the hotel late one night and the surrounding area was very deserted. We regretted not taking a cab. It was a nice hotel but I would not go out walking at night. There were just not enough people around.

We loved the Grand Hyatt and found it so easy to find our way around from there.
If I remember correctly, there was a subway stop at the hotel/under the hotel.
