Which hotel in San Diego?
 

I've read thru the old posts but am still confused. Please comment on which hotel would be best for a trip in April with my husband and 13 month old daughter. We would like to be within walking distance to restraunts and the beach. Thank you!

bahia is the only one that i'd say are within walking distance of an ocean beach. lots of restaurants around. a lot of fast food in the area or a 215 minute walk and you'll be in pacific beach which has a ton of restaurants of all types.
humphreys is very nice and has restaurants around but it's on the harbour. no beach per say. nice view of downtown.

There's a place called Green something, right at the boardwalk in PB. Don't eat there. I got violently ill after eating there recently (Feb 9, I think it was). Bad seafood.

Of your Hotel choices, I would stay at either Paradise Point,Humphrey's or the Sheraton SD.. Bahia is in Mission Beach and there aren't alot of restaurants expect fast food but you do have the proximity to the bay and the ocean..
Have you tried La Jolla? The Best Western in downtown LJ was $109 a night on Expedia in April and it is 2 blocks from a gorgeous ocean and the town is wonderful to walk with lots and lots of restaurants..other choices would be the Sea Lodge in LJ too..

I do not want to be surronded by fast food, but we do want restraunts where we will be ok taking our daughter.

Is La Jolla a much better choice than MB? I've heard about Del Mar, too but that is kinda pricey, I'm trying to stay around $175/night.

La Jolla is prettier, cleaner, altogether much better than the rest of the beaches in San Diego.

Stayed at Best WEstern in La Jolla at the last minute. Rooms aren't anything special but the locations is so ideal. It's about 2 blocks away from the sea lions. If you go to La Jolla, try Geroge's at the Cove for dinner or sunset.

Cardiff by the sea is nice too but it's further north. The Beach House is a wonderful place to eat. Good food and right on the beach.

Since I live in Downtown LJ, I am somewhat biased but it is stunning and for what you want like walking and great restaurants and wonderful beaches, you have picked the perfect place! I don't know what time in April you are coming in but stay in Downtown LJ so you can do everything..
Grande Colonial Hotel is wonderful and it is $196 on Expedia for April and the Best Western which is a 3 star does the job for $129 a night..

Maybe going direct you can get a better deal..

Georges at the Cove
Alfonso's
Crab Catcher for Happy Hour
La Valencia for drinks and brunch out on the outside patio overlooking the cove.

Whatever you decide, I would certainly not recommend staying at the Hyatt Islandia. It is islolated and the qualtiy of its rooms put shame on the Hyatt brand IMHO. This info is based on a one night stay in a junior suite there in November 2005. The bathroom in particular was ridiculously maintained for a hotel in that range.

The Dana, BTW, has a new complex that looks quite nice, but is right across the street from the Islandia - and I wouldn't know where I'd like to walk from there.
