Which Hotel in NYC?

Hi y'all,
I'm taking my bf for a weekend to NYC for his birthday in June. We're arriving at noon on Friday and leaving at 8 p.m. on Sunday, so we don't have much time.

He'll be in NYC for the first time in 2 weeks, but only for one night. Staying at the Waldorf and dinner at Balthazar. Other than that, just wandering around.

For the trip in June, I need some guidance on a hotel. I'm using points, so I'm limited to Hilton properties.

Times Square -- I'm afraid this is going to be too loud, garish, neon-y NY
Ave of Americas -- too businessy?
Millenium Hilton on Church Street
Doubletree Metropolitan
Hampton Inn in Chelsea

We're in our mid-thirties, young professionals, not really into the uper-hipster thing. He's not a museum guy, doesn't want to to the Statue of Liberty.

We really love to pick a part of town and wander around and get to know it a little in a day, if that's possible. Know what I mean?

That being said, which hotel would you recommend from the above list?

Thanks so much in advance!

Based on your post I think you would like Chelsea. You can wander around that very happening but not touristy area, then head south through the meat packing district and end up in the West Village.

Thanks for the info on Manhattan Club, but I'm specifically asking about the Hilton properties listed in my original posting.

A free hotel is my favorite hotel!!

I agree that from your list the Hampton Inn Chelsea sounds like the best fit for you. But the Hampton Inn Times Square North is a nicer hotel in a good location for a first time visitor.
