Which hotel in Monument Valley
Hi again. I want to spend a night at either Gouldings or The View. Which do you prefer and which type of room do you prefer? I was looking for newer threads on this, but haven't seen the two compared recently. If they have, sorry for being redundant and point me in the right direction please!
I'm also going to take a tour, the 8 hour one sounds really cool. Should I just wait until I get there to book it from either The View or Goulding's? Thanks again. |
I'm at Gouldings right now in a one bedroom apartment at the lodge. We have a good size deck with a nice but more distant view of Monument Valley. The View is inside the park so will have closer views. We're happy with our choice and Gouldings is a short drive to the park. Can't help with tour information. We drove the 17 mile loop today and found it to be spectacular in the afternoon light. Hoping it snows tomorrow morning so I can get some photos of MV in snow. It snowed while we were in Sedona yesterday and was just gorgeous against the red rocks.

I've stayed at the View and it's gorgeous to be there at sunrise. The Mittens are right outside your window.
Sunset we were not in the room there is a great view from just outside. Very happy with our choice. We met guides in the Valley while we were there so that might be an option. Patty, that sounds wonderful. Monument Valley is such a special place ;) |
I've stayed at both and would return to either. Gouldings was nice for sure, but "The View" is called that for a reason! That would be my first choice, and I'd book ASAP, they seem to fill up.
The day we were there in May it was incredibly windy, but we were able to sit out on our balcony, protected from the wind and enjoy the incredible close up view of the monuments. It was magic at both sunrise and sunset. |
Thanks guys!
patty...was extremely nice of you to take the time to respond while you are RIGHT THERE! |
We got a bit more snow than we hoped for today. It was snowing sideways by the time we reached Canyon de Chelly and near white out conditions on 191 but we made it to Petrified Forest only to find the park closed! Be careful what you wish for? ;)

I stayed at The View and would recommend it. As someone said, there's a reason it's called "The View".
I asked for an upper floor room and got one, but I'm pretty certain all rooms have beautiful views. I also did the drive in late afternoon - just perfect. I drove to Gouldings to check it out. It looked very nice, but the view is far more distant. |
panecott, thanks so much for the comparison between the two. I think The View sounds great. Patty....hope you made is someplace safe and warm!
