which hotel in boston would be best ?
 

Missed the boat on the hilton boston back bay for the fall (prices are going up!)

Would the John Hancock Hotel (40 trinity) or the Chandler In be a better location or area to stay in?

We will have no car.

I live in Boston and am only familiar with the Chandler. I don't know if you know this, but the Chandler sits atop a gay bar (Fritz, a gay sports bar). It's a very friendly place and only warn you because it's an issue for some people (I'm gay, so I'm not being judgmental). I don't know the John Hancock Hotel at all, but looked up the location on google. Oddly, it's very near where I work, but have never heard it called that. If the rooms like fine to you online, I'd go for the Hancock. It's only a half block from Copley Square, near the Prudential Mall area, and there's a lot to see and do just a short walk away. Better location than the Chandler.

aquaman I thank you very much for your open reply. Per your reply, I think we'll stay at john hancock. It's hard to know the ins and outs of a city especially being across the country from it!

You might look at The Harbourside Inn, which is close to the Financial area, and it's across the street from Quincy Market, so LOTS of restaurants handy. It's also really close to the start of the Freedom Trail, and a short walk to the North End.

I stayed at the Harborside not long ago and loved it would stay there again if I'm heading to Boston. The blue line of the T stops right in front of the hotel.

The John Hancock is often used as a conference center. The rooms are not large but it's a perfectly nice place to stay in Boston at reasonable rates. The location couldn't be better. You're just off of Copley Square--so convenient to Back Bay, and the many restaurants in the South End. You'll also be close to two different transit lines--the green and the orange.

I arranged a conference there years ago and everyone was delighted with the location.

Thank you travelbuff and cw!!! I appreciate hearing about the surroundings of the hotels. I did look at the harbourside inn but is a little costlier so I did book late last night at john hancock hotel. We are so looking forward to it!!
