Which Hawaiian islands?

My wife and I are planning a trip to Hawaii for the spring. After spending a couple days in Oahu to see the Pearl Harbor Memorial, we plan to go to Kauai and Maui for about 12 days total. How would other readers break up this time? Evenly, or give more time to Maui because it's larger and has more to do? But I hear Kauai is the most beautiful, so I'm not sure how to divide up the time. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
We plan to stay on the south shore in Kauai and the west coast in Maui.

I think both islands have a lot to do; I've been to Maui twice and Kauai twice. If you like to go hiking and snorkeling, there are so many things to do on Kauai. There is also hiking on Maui, but I think Kauai is more beautiful. I would break it up 6 and 6 since you haven't been to either island.

I'd also split time evenly. Size of the islands doesn't really matter. Kauai is smaller but has spectacular scenery and some of it takes a while to get there. It is also less developed in many places, so can be more enjoyable and relaxing IMO. Maui certainly has plenty of activity options.

I agree with splitting the time 50-50 between Kauai and Maui. Although they are very different in scenery and culture, they both require a full 5-7 days to enjoy and explore fully.
