Which Florida Key to visit?

My husband and I will be visiting southern Florida in early February. We would like to spend a couple of days on the Keys but I don't know what area we should go to. I don't want to go all the way out to Key West. Any suggestions on a good area to go to? We aren't the touristy type, so quiet and not a lot of shops is fine!!! Would also love recommendations on things to do and places to stay. We would love to get some snorkeling in if it's good and warm enough then. Thanks!

Key Largo is not far down the Keys at all. John Pennenkamp State Park has snorkeling and a glass bottom boat tour of the mangroves. We stayed at the Hampton Inn-it even has a tiny beach.

Mine is Islamorada. Perfect for day trips up to Pennekamp or down to Key West. Also perfect for just hanging out for a week.

We have friends in Marthon who say that most of the keys especially north of Marthon Ian still badly tore up.
