Which Ferry from New London to East Hampton?

We are going to East Hampton in early October. I completely spaced making the reservations for the ferry. We will be taking our car. Hope it is not too late!

We will drive from MA to New London, CT., but I am unsure from there how I get to East Hampton. Someone told me to call Cross Sound Ferry. Someone else told me that we actually need to book 2 ferries?

Could someone please help - I need to book this tomorrow. Thanks.

I know that you have to book the cross sound ferry from new london to orient point..I'm not aware of a ferry from orient point to east hampton..you can drive from orient point to east hampton in less than 2 hours (if theres no traffic)..speak to an operator at cross sound they can probably give you info if there is such a ferry..good luck

The answer is as follows: it depends. You can take the ferry to Orient Point,
and then drive west to Riverhead, and then southeast to East Hampton. My educated guess is that will take 1-1/2 hours.

The other choice, to the best of my knowledge, after arriving at Orient Point, is to take a ferry from Greenport to the north part of Shelter Island, then take a ferry from the south part of Shelter Island to Sag Harbor, and then drive to East Hampton.

Cross Sound Ferry is correct: the other ferry companies for Long Island are North Ferry and South Ferry, both located in Shelter Heights, NY. the area code is 631.

I don't think there is a ferry from Orient Point to the South Shore of LI.

Hope this helps.

from a native li'er...new london, ct offers the orient point ferry. the ferry itself is about an hour and a half. once in orient point, it's not an hours drive to east hampton. more like 30-40 minutes tops. the roads out there are small, and windy but they'll take you there. it's a lovely time of year for the east end. hope you get a chance to see the wineries!

We usually take the Bridgeport CT to Port Jefferson NY ferry, no reservations required, just arrive early, we try to cross about noon, and have lunch on deck, they have a small snack bar on board. From Port Jefferson take 25A East to 83 South to 27 East will take you to East Hampton and all the way to the point. The ferry trip is about 45 minutes across and you beat the late afternoon traffic.
