Which Downtown Las Vegas Hotel?
 

We are planning a trip out west, family of 4 with 2 older teens this spring, and want to spend one night in Downtown LV. Which Downtown hotel would you suggest?

We arrive on Sat. AM and have all day to explore LV, and then see Downtown/Freemont St. experience, etc. and stay Downtown. Then on to Hoover Dam, Sedona, GC, Bryce and Zion before arriving back in LV the following Sat., staying on the strip and catching a show before heading back east.

Check around for internet deals, as their rack rates can be expensive. It's the best place to stay downtown.

Thanks! I checked rates for the Golden Nugget the night we'll be there (a Saturday), and the best I have found so far is $135. Is that a good rate, or should I keep looking? Their "official" rate for that night is $160. I dabbled on Priceline, but was rejected at $75.

BTW - it looks great! My DH and I have been in the casinos on Freemont St., but never have stayed or ventured into the hotels downtown...

Seems a little hight but you are arriving on the weekend..

March 29 - in the middle of spring break time!

Oh, and according to their website there sre no Sat. arrivals for 1 night stay that weekend - the $135 is through AAA.com. Expedia has the same story.

Will you have a car? Do you have to stay in downtown?

Close to downtown are Stratosphere and Sahara.

Go ahead and book that if you can for $135 since everything is pretty expensive with spring break and conventions too..
Go and have the best breakfast across from the Golden Nugget at the Horshoe/Binion's downstairs for the $4.99 Ham steak and 2 eggs with hash browns and toast..the ham takes up the whole plate..it's a classic and good for 2 older teens.

Sounds awesome! No, we don't have to stay in downtown, but wanted our 2 older teens to catch a bit of the old and the new on the bookends of our Grand Canyon Loop trip. Plus we are big CSI fans, and it's always fun to see things in person that you see regularly on TV! :-)

We stayed at the Vegas Club and Casino and liked it. The room was huge and clean, and the beds were comfortable. Also, parking was included and adjacent to the hotel. We drove everywhere and had a great time!

We stayed in the North Tower which I've read is the preferred of the two.

Don't stay downtown with teens, there's too much more to see and do on the strip. Take a quick trip downtown to see "Old Vegas" and the Fremont Laser Light show, but then they'll want to head back to the action. One hour downtown should do just fine.

Oops, sorry, I read your post incorrectly. I thought you had two nights in a row...and wanted to switch hotels after your first night. Disregard my advice.

I think downtown is fine with teens, if you'll be out all day and basically want to do the Freemont experience, tehn head out the next morning.

Generally speaking, the rates posted on Expedia are same as the rates on hotel websites. Expedia works well to give you an overview of everything, location and price. If you book with the hotel directly, there is usually cancellation policy that you can cancel up to 48 or 72 hours, which you can't do with Expedia.

Thanks for all the advice! Yes, lcuy, we will pretty much be out all day, then do the Freemont experience and then head out in the morning. Clark, you're right - I don't think I would want to stay 2 nights in a row downtown when there's so much more on the strip for us to see and do.

Now we just have to wait for March... :-)
