Which days are public holidays for Easter?
Hi,
I am planning to visit California next April and just need to know which days are actually public holidays during Easter. I plan to arrive 25th April which is the Tuesday after Easter Monday. Is this a public holiday?
Thank you!

Since Easter is a religious celebration, technically it cannot be considered a public holiday (separation of church and state), although somehow Christmas is an inviolable holiday, even at the federal level. Neither Easter nor Easter Monday is likely to be considered a public holiday in California (correct me if I'm wrong, C'fornians). Some schools observe Good Friday but often just by tacking it on to a spring vacation.

Some employers will give their employees the option of taking Friday afternoon off on the Friday before Easter Sunday. Most school districts in California give the students a week off during this time of year, but it is generally referred to as a "Spring Break" rather than an "Easter Holiday". It can fall the week before Easter Sunday (in the majority of cases), the week after, or a couple of weeks before or after that.

Vanessa -

We have no version of Easter Monday. However, many people do celebrate Good Friday. Government and transportation workers are stuck in their offices/at work, but many banks and professional offices (lawyers, accountants etc.) start shutting their offices around 1:30 or 2:00.
Most restaurants, theaters and shops and other public type places will be open both Friday and Sunday.
