Which Condo Complex in Cherry Grove
 
Which condo complex in Cherry Grove North Myrtle Beach is the nicest with oceanfront and other amenities?

Four adults and one teenager.

We are planning a trip for June 2005 and need a three bedroom condo. First time and web info shows many many condo complexes. Looking for feedback from travelers. Prefer Cherry Grove away from all the busy part of Myrtle Beach.

Willing to spend $1000/wk.

We will be golfing mostly in the southern part of North Carolina. Found more oceanfront condos located in Cherry Grove which is not far from Sunset Beach, NC.

Looking for suggestions. Thanks.

I wish I could help you out with a specific recommendation, but we haven't stayed in Cherry Grove in decades.

I would like to make a comment though. If it has been a while since you stayed in North Myrtle Beach (including Cherry Grove), I think you will be surprised at the amount of development and the increase in traffic.

I am not trying to discourage you at all, because Cherry Grove would be convenient for your Brunswick County golfing plans. I just thought you should consider that it has grown up a bit. Also, your target of $1,000 a week may be difficult to achieve (at least for a nicer/newer oceanfront 3BR); I'd think you're probably looking at $1,500, but I could be wrong. You may want to check with one of the larger real estate companies that services the NMB area: Elliott Realty, http://www.northmyrtlebeachtravel.com/ (no affiliation by the way).

Finally, you may also want to consider Ocean Isle--it has more condos than Sunset (although Sunset is one of my all-time favorite beaches).

In addition to what chuck said, you want the nicest three bedroom oceanfront condo complex for a week for $1,000? You may find something in a mid range limited amenity condo complex a row off the beach for $1800.

Secondly, golfing is miserable that time of year because it is so hot. I wouldn't tee off any later than 7:30 AM.

While I totally agree that your price range is unrealistic for a 3 bedroom oceanfront, you should try the CRS website. CRS.com We had a good experience renting from them. Very scary to rent a condo sight unseen (except for the often rose colored pix)for us to take 4 kids from MA. It turned out to be a wonderful place. There were no extra charges, lack of service, or unpleasant surprises. The condo was quite nice with really good furniture, nice bathrooms, well stocked kitchen, etc. Good luck.

A resident of Cherry Grove and watching 2 new condos being built at the present time. The new ones will be finished by summer. Streets these are on would be from the 50th Avenues up. It is not as quiet as it once was,but June should be a good time for you to come. Elliot Realty and Cherry Grove Rentals should be able to find what you are looking for. Sea Pointe(beautiful rooms just above the Xanadu II) and Xanadu II(56 the Ave.) down the street from me have nice locations as well as being at the end of the Cherry Grove Beach which is nice.
The first of June here is not that hot.
The prices quoted you sound about right. Not that inexpensive in summer season.

For the heck of it, I checked Elliott Realty and didn't find anything that cheap. You can almost guarantee spending $100 per night per bedroom for a condo. The rates I checked were for early June (June 4-11) which are cheaper than late June.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your input. We decided to rent a beach duplex on Sunset Beach at $1500/wk but right on the beach. We can drive to North Myrtle Beach for any other activities we need. Any must see or must do things in Sunset Beach area?

Sunset is a beautiful beach that has not developed so much commercially as the North Myrtle Beach. The beach is mainly the thing at Sunset. With a car you can easily travel down 17 South to get to N. Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach for whatever activities you choose to do. Sure you found the prices better there at Sunset also. I love Cherry Grove, but wish there was not so much building as it will only bring more tourist in the summer for those of us who enjoy living here so much.

Travelsnoop,

I think you'll love Sunset. One thing to consider (at least the first time you try to get on or off the island): the only access is via a swing bridge. It's really cool, but be aware you might experience 15-30 minute delays, especially getting off the island, as the road closes to let boat traffic through.

Maryanne1 has it right about Sunset--it's all about the beach. If you're looking for a little day trip, you could try Wilmington (great waterfront shops & restaurants, along the Cape Fear River) or Southport, just to your east (both are perhaps 45 minutes from Sunset).

Finally, be aware that if you do head down to the Myrtle Beach area, we have a great 6 lane highway that bypasses ALL of the traffic (it's Highway 31, a/k/a Carolina Bays Parkway). It runs from Highway 9 in Little River (from Sunset, you would take 17 South, then veer right onto Highway 9) past Highway 22 (22 East will put you between NMB and MB, near Colonial Mall), past Robert Grissom Parkway (which will put you at about 48th Ave North in MB), past Highway 501 (which will connect you to either Conway, a great little town, or the heart of MB), and finally it ends at Highway 544 which brings you pretty close to Surfside, south of MB.

Oh, another *finally*: if you need a special occasion restaurant, try Stars on Ocean Isle Beach (the beach just to the east of Sunset). It is great, with wonderful views of the intracoastal waterway/marshes.

Next time slip two miles down to Ocean Drive where there are several great oceanfront condo complexes. Elliott Realty and Thomas Realty list them. However, good luck finding June oceanfront at $1000.
