Which B&B in historic Charleston?
 

I need some help deciding among four B&B’s for a quick two day trip in April to historic Charleston for 2 couples. Being a bit obsessive/compulsive, I have read about dozens of B&B’s and Inns on TripAdvisor, here on Fodor’s forums, and individual websites, besides travel books, etc. (Get the picture of my O/C???)
I have finally narrowed down our lodging choices to the following places, based mainly on cost and availability: Anchorage Inn (they will give us a retired military discount); Barksdale House Inn (two very reasonably priced rooms in their Carriage House); Elliot House (with AARP discount); and the Pinckney Inn (can't remember why I chose this one!)
We want clean rooms within easy walking distance to historic homes, restaurants, unique shopping, and walking tour routes. Location and B&B ambience is more important to us than cost on this short visit. ---I think I just described Elliot House. What do y’all think?

I stayed at the Barksdale House Inn a few years ago for a girlfriends' getaway; we really enjoyed it. We enjoyed touring all the old plantations and eating dinner at Magnolia's. We also did a candlelight tour of historic homes and gardens. The inn had breakfast delivered to our rooms each morning, and they also served afternoon tea. I remember the prices being very reasonable. I think I stayed in Room #3 - very pretty blue and yellow color scheme, did not see the Carriage House.

You probably don't want the Andrew Pinckney as it's probably not "B&B" enough for you. We loved it for it's great location (on a quiet street too), cool 2 story townhouse type rooms, and decent breakfast at the great rooftop setting. But we choose it specifically because it was more like a small hotel and less like a B&B.

Thanks for the feedback on Barksdale and Pinckney. I agree Pinckney is a bit too big for this visit, altho there are times I prefer not to meet people over the breakfast table--I'm not a morning person! I can handle a silver tray breakfast delivered to my room, though--the only drawback to Barksdale is its increased distance from our touring district. Hubbie says, "It just for two days--Just pick a place!"

phyllo, we drove everywhere and didn't have any problems. We rented a convertible, so really enjoyed it.
