Which antimalarial drug?
Decisions, decisions!!! There are several to choose from. Does anyone have a preference or one that gave you problems?
Thanks so much! |
I've taken Malarone before and didn't have any problems at all. Where are you headed?

Normally Lariam ... but check with Sandi ... she's current. Africa site.

You need to talk to someone in a travel clinic. Find out which drugs work for the area you will be traveling to, and take the one they recommend. If the mosquitos in the area are not resistant to Chloroquine, you should take that. It's the same reason you don't take Cipro for an infection that is sensitive to good old penicillin. The germs/mosquitos will just build resistance faster, the more they are exposed.

Ditto. Speak with an MD who prescribes anti-malaria drugs not your general MD. There are strange side effects from drugs such as Larium and sometimes your best bet is bug spray with deet.
If you are only going on a cruise, to say Panama, and will only be in port during the day, you will not need an anti-malaria drug. Do a google search on this topic, it is an eye opener. |
