Which Anchorage lodging for location?

For our last 2 nights in Alaska before we fly out, we'd like a great location accessible to all the activities recommended by Fodorites, like the bike trail, Glacier Brewhouse, walking around downtown, etc. After 2 weeks of running around Alaska, comfort and a touch of luxury would be nice, too. Which place would you recommend?

For location and luxury, probably the Hotel Captain Cook, close to nice dining and in the heart of downtown.

Thanks, Repete. I was hoping to hear from some of you Alaska experts. I've read that Voyager Hotel is across the street from Captain Hook. Is it comparable to Captain Hook? It's much less expensive. Thanks!

;-) Oops! Guess I have Peter Pan on the brain. That was supposed to be "Captain Cook" above, not "Captain Hook." Well, maybe someone will get a laugh out of it, anyway. ;-)

There is no comparism between the two hotels. Will you have a car? The Hilton is nice. I would look at listings and their location on the downtown map- if that is what you are looking for. There are also many wonderful B&B's running the whole range of lodging. www.anchorage.net

Both hotels are great for what they do. The Cook is as close to an institution as there is in AK. It's in the ``Preferred'' group.

Voyager is smaller and a tremendous value -- right across the street. It's clean, but nothing fancy or extra amenities. It all depends on expectations, but since you mentioned luxury, you're best chance is at the Cook. Even if you choose the Voyager, have a drink in the Crow's next at the Cook.
