Which airports really do have long lines?

As a very frequent business traveller, I welcome all tidbits of info regarding which airports have problems. Right after flights resumed, I arrived at the airport(PVD) 2 hours early, only to find that security was a laugh and took about 1 minute. I don't care to repeat this experience - especially since I got out of bed at 4 AM.
In the last 2 weeks, I have found no waits and short lines in LGA, Charlotte, BWI and Dulles. Friends report long lines at PHL...
What has anyone else experienced??

Long lines at the Terminal 2 at OAK; and on Sunday at LAS.

What about the international terminal at O'Hare? Any one been there recently and how long in advance do you think check in is reasonable?3 hours?

I met a week ago with someone who had flown in from Chicago. She was there two hours yearly and had plenty of time, but there were not many people in the airport. I don't know what it was like this week.

Linda, how early did you have to be at LAS on Sunday? Our plane is scheduled to leave at 8:40 a.m. in Nov. 2 hours enough? Thanks.

what about DAL? I'm leaving out of Miami later in the week. I know here they are thoroughly searching everyone's car if we park. The check in's are running over an hour from everyone I've spoken to. We have national guard here now, what about at other airports?

Manchester, NH; extremely long wait, we needed every minute of the 2 hours required. This may be because people are using Manchester intead of Logan now more than ever.

Just flew from Louisville, KY to Chicago yesterday, Sunday. Lines were long but no longer than a normal Sunday afternoon as that is always the busiest day. Had a 3 p.m. flight and was told to be there at 1:30. Got through check in at counter in about 25 min (lots of ticket people working!) then spent another 20 min clearing security. Got boarding pass in about 5 min and had 30 min. for a snack before boarding!

JoAnn, we flew back INTO LAS on Sunday. But, from the lines I saw, I would estimate 3 hours, depending on the airline. (For instance, Southwest's looks longer, but I think they have a lot of flights on Sunday, too.) It may take you less time, but there are lots of things to keep you busy in LAS and I'd rather be early for a flight than miss it.

I urge you to call your airline and ask them this question. They can answer more definitively than I.

Thanks Linda. We will check with Delta when we get to LAS. Since it is an early a.m. flight maybe it won't be too long.

Co-workers report long bad lines yesterday at BWI. No problems in PVD.Very long lines at Logan

No lines last week at SEA. Today the line for Southwest, Alaska, and Northwest were literally around the corner (took 25 minutes to get to the counter for Southwest). The lines for security were also very long - over 30 minutes to get through.

Flew out of BWI on Friday morning to Fort Myers, FL. I was in Security line at 6AM. Lines for ticket counter were "horrendous." Security Lines at Pied D (US Airways and others) were horrible too and looped around almost down to the International Pier E. Took 1 hour 15 mins to get through Security. If you had to go to Ticket Counter first you would definately be and then go thru Security you would have to stand in lines mininum of 3 hours.

No lines at all in RWS (Florida). Returned 2 pm on Monday to BWI and Security line at Pier D was maybe 20-30 minutes, but Ticket Counter lines for US Airways was still long -- probably about 45 mins to 1 hour wait.

No lines at Dulles tonight nor last week (Wednesday) for international flights.

10/4 - no lines at HNL afternoon and SEA very late at night
10/5 - no lines at PDX in mid-morning
10/7 - no lines at BOI in mid-morning
10/8 PDX, very early am - horrendous lines (several hours long by my guess, for the large airlines - NW, AA, Delta, USA, Alaska, etc.)

I think the day and time of the flight makes a huge difference. New security measure went in to effect on Monday that might have slowed things down. The lines were at the ticket counters, almost no wait to pass through security.

We flew out of JFK last Thursday to Bermuda at 8:30 a.m. on American. Very short line. It took us only 25 minutes from drop off to the gate.

No lines yesterday in Chicago (ORD) but co workers still report long lines in Philly..

Mustangs81 Oct 13th, 2001 04:08 AM

TPA: Sat 8am flight, very long lines at every security check point. Only one shuttle running into each terminal but I guess that is to control the flow of passengers going into the gate security area. I was surprised with the length of lines that the security checks seems more cosmetic than vigilant.

No surprise here..........coworkers report long security lines at Logan

scott Oct 13th, 2001 06:08 AM
