If The Mosser has a shuttle, it isn't free. I don't think any hotel in SF proper has a free shuttle. Sorry they have no rooms, because it is a great deal.
What about the Courtyard over on Second near Folsom? It would be a bit of a walk - 10 minutes or so, but way closer than Fisherman's Wharf.
When is this conference? Did you get airplane tickets yet? If you wait too long, you may find yourself SOL for a room anywhere at either a good price or decent location.

I was going to second the Courtyard (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/trave...isco-downtown/) - just checked and they have availability but pricey at about $319 - think this is for the conference - as the week prior, the rate is $149 and I stayed there during a "non-conference" and had a suite for $189. Not the greatest hotel, but remodeled and comfortable. And as DebitNM said, closer than Fisherman's Wharf. There are also "The Palace" and the new "Intercontinental" hotels, but suspect you would be gouged on a stay at those as well (assuming in the $350-$450 range). Also, remember, this has not been a good year for SF hotels - while the news tries to put a good front on it - business has been dismal, so with a conference where they know they have you, you will get gouged.
