Which airport for Chapel Hill?

I am planning on attending a conference at UNC Chapel Hill in June, and I was truly stumped when it came to figuring out which airport to fly into, based purely on the 3 letter names. Is RDU the main airport in the area?

Chapel Hill is about a 20 minute drive from the airport. Just get on I-40 (not I-540) when exiting the airport and go west. Depends on traffic and when you arrive. Rush hour could take you a few more minutes. There are 2 exits to Chapel Hill. Depends on where you staying. I would think it would be the 15-501 exit.

Hi Curious- the problem stems from the fact that this will be my first "real" visit to NC, and the travel websites (hotwire, yahoo, etc.) kept sending me to different airports. I wasn't sure why this was happening- if maybe RDU was really small and only had occasional service, for example. So this would be my reasoning for asking.

Is Pyewacket still around? That was a great restaurant when I was in grad school at UNC many years ago. The big splurge was always at a country inn outside of Chapel Hill called Fearrington House.

Pyewacket is gone. We tried to visit last fall, not sure how long it's been closed.

Katya, you might want to consider Crook's Cornder. Award winning for authentic southern cooking with a flair. Upscale diner atmosphere inside, courtyard seating in nice weather.

Yes, Crook's Corner is our choice in Chapel Hill. 411 Franklin is good Italian, and for a local place can't beat Breadman's or Mama Dips.

Forgot about Crook's Corner! The owner who was a celebrated southern chef died way too young while I was in school there, if I remember correctly.

Have you eaten at Crook's Corner recently? DH and I had a delicious dinner there in November. Totally crowded on a weekday night.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think Rachael Ray visited the area for her $40 a Day show- I wonder if the restaurants she visited are anything to spend time on? Or are they full of hoardes of RR fans now?

I'm a vegetarian too. If you're a strict one, Crook's Corner may not be a great choice. Southern food tends to have all kinds of hidden meat broths, and veggies are usually cooked with pork, etc. The Happy Cow website (great for veggie restaurants around the world) lists Crazy Mae's and Sage in Chapel Hill--among others. Google "Happy Cow Vegetarian Chapel Hill" and see what sounds good.

The restaurant at Southern Seasons has some good vegetarian friendly options.
