Which 3 Stops to tour SW?

Hi all!
Just starting to plan a family trip to New Mexico and Arizona for next April. I have done some searching, but am thoroughly confused (I've never been west of the Mississippi!)
I want the kids (12&14) to experience some history and spirituality of the Native American culture, and I want to experience some of those cool spas! We all want to see those bizarre land forms in the dessert and try regional cuisine.
I need to choose three areas to explore, that are within a day's drive of each other (6-8 hours). We'll fly into Location1, spend 2-3nights, drive to Location2 to spend 2-3 nights, and drive onto Location3 for the final 2-3 nights before flying home.
What do you think? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your HELP!
There are a thousand things to do and see in this area - many covered here. Any basic search on Arizona or New Mexico should turn up many suggestions. In Arizona in particular drive up to Sedona from Phoenix to see cool red rock formations and hiking. Check out Indian ruins and cliff dwellings while you're there. In New Mexico go to the Indian market.....

If you'll look back on Arizona forums, you will find loads of information on northern AZ...I think the three things you'll want to do, after flying into Phoenix is drive to Sedona/Grand Canyon, Monument Valley and Canyon de Chelly. That will be an outstanding trip at a great time of year...all sorts of arrangements and driving routes and accommodation suggestions are listed in the former forums.
