Hands Down- No doubt about it-Absolutley the best pizza you'll ever have*********************************
Twin Trees Pizza- North Syracuse, NY. Their Wings are not to shabby either. |
Pinocchio's in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. They have an awesome everyday deal too - 2 slices of sicilian for $3.95! This is the best pizza-by-the-slice in the Boston area, IMHO.
|
In MY Chicagoland the pizza is thin- very crispy thin.
And my favorite right now is Ed & Joe's in Tinley Park - right near the Oak Park Ave. Metra station. But I can name at least 4 or 5 others too. |
I also enjoy Pinnochios in Harvard SQ. I am bias toward thin crust, so I will go with Cambridge One, also in Harvard Square. Another Cambridge One is opening up near Fenway soon.
|
bbqboy, you can find the "Portland pizza map" linked off of my main website or by googling for "Portland pizza map" and I think you can find my pizza site at the top.

mrsd2fan, when we lived in Eastwood in the mid to late 70's, there was a Twin Trees there. We loved it!
We drove through there on our recent trip (the night we ate at Dinosaur BBQ) and noticed that the Twin Trees in Eastwood is gone. Or at least has moved. But while we were waiting for my son's tour at SU, my husband noticed a Twin Trees on their list of restaurants. We were so glad to see that they're still around. Next time we're in Syracuse, we'll have to see if it's still as good as we remember! |
CAPH-
Twin Trees has Restaurants all around Syr. I just said North Syracuse, because that's where I used to live. When we were home in July for a wedding, the rehearsal dinner was at the Twin Trees on Milton Ave. and it was deelish! |
|
My two favorites in Milwaukee are neighborhood places that are family owned and have been around since I was a kid.
1) Tarantino's - carry out only, the thinnest crust and great sauce! 2) Maria's - also only thin crust. The sauce is not quite a good as Tarantion's but I love watching the little old man an woman work together. |
Coal Vines in Dallas Texas. Closest thing to New York style pizza that I've ever had. Great atmosphere as well.
|
If you are in Seattle and like thin-crust pizza, there is no place better than Palomino located downtown. At happy hour they go for $4.99, but they are very much worth full price.
At the risk of the wrath of others, I declare myself a big fan of the original DiGiorno Supreme Pizza. I place it on a cookie sheet sprayed with Pam and place it in a 425 F. oven for 21-24 minutes. (I do not like any of the other Digiorno pizzas or any other frozen pizza that I have experienced.) |
Old Forge, PA (near Scranton)

KathyK:
My absolute favorite cheese and pepperoni is from La Pizza Club on Hertel Ave. Great sauce, good crust, and pepperoni that gets black around the edge. Others I like (all in the city) are: Casa di Pizza (Elmwood Ave. near Children's Hospital). Frank's Sunny Italy on Delaware Ave. I don't like their other food, but their pizza is really good. Pepe's on Colvin Avenue. Milano's on Englewood (Kenmore). Mattina's in Tonawanda is pretty good, too. I no longer like Mr. Pizza and La Nova, which were west side icons for years. My favorite is the kind I used to get as a kid on the west side. Traditional pizza made by Italian bakeries. An Italian bread-type of bottom with thick sauce mixed with olive oil and sprinkled Romano cheese on top. I haven't had it since I was a kid, but recently discovered at DiCamillo's bakery (Niagara Falls). They just opened another location on Main St. in Williamsville. It's soooo good. I prefer a lot of sauce and little cheese! |
I dig Pagliacci in Seattle - a small local chain of basically pizza joints, which are nicer than your average fast food place.

Buffalo Girl, This is the 2nd time you've mentioned La Pizza Club, so I think I'll have to try it. It's in my brother's neighborhood, maybe I'll suggest it the next time we're over there. I agree that Mr. Pizza is not what it used to be. When we lived in the city back in the 80's we got it from there all the time and loved it. I hadn't had it from there in about 10 years and recently people ordered it from work and it's not nearly as good as I remember it. I went to Chicago last year and felt that I had to try Chicago pizza and came away with the opinion that Buffalo pizza is much better.

Gombos in Col. Guadalupe, San Miguel de Allende, Gto., MX.
Seriously, better than any world wide. FD: I lived in Philadelphia (until '58); NYC (until '67); DC (until '75); San Diego (until '80); Dallas (until '05). We are going to explore the pizza places in Buenos Aires, AR at month's end. M |
KathyK: I grew up around the corner from the original Mr. Pizza and grew up eating it. The new location on Elmwood is not owned by the original Hampshire Street owner. I think he re-opened on Elmwood and then sold it. I can't imagine why the new owner would change it!
Wouldn't it be funny if your tried LaPizza Club and didn't like it? |
Buffalo Girl, A new owner would explain the difference in Mr. Pizza. I'll let you know when I try La Pizza Club. You have me curious, and I'm always looking for good pizza!
|
Cossetta's in St. Paul, MN. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the type of place you'd find in Little Italy. They've been in business since 1911. The award-winning pizzas are hand-tossed, and it is worthwhile to watch.
|
Hoops... I'm in Colorado too. Try Anthony's if you haven't already - they have 4 locations that I know if in the Denver area. It's my favorite.
|
NYPD on East William in Ann Arbor, Michigan. My favorites there are the White Pizza or the Philly Cheesesteak.
BC |
O'Scugnizzo's Pizza in Utica, NY. They have a real different way of making their pizza. Cheese and toppings are underneath the sauce.
Many great pizza joints in Utica. Here's O'Scignizzo's website: www.uticapizza.com |
Romano's 24" family pie in Middlesex, NJ.
Doesn't even fit in the front seat of my car -- I have to put it in the trunk! |
If you truly want the absolute best pizza in the US, and possibly the world (this coming from my husband who lived in Italy during prime pizza-eating years) then you MUST go to DiFara's Pizza in Midwood, Brooklyn. It is about a 30 minute ride on the Q-train to Ave J from Downtown (Canal St.) Manhattan.
The man that runs the place, Dominic DiMarco, is from Italy and uses the best and freshest ingredients. The dough is whipped into shape right before he puts his own tomato sauce on. It followed by cheese that you watch him (and ONLY him) grate onto the pizza. The cheese, by the way, is only buffalo mozarella and hand grated parmigiano. He has run the joint for 40 years in the same teensy place and is the only one that makes the pizza. He has helpers that cut the pepperoni and get the artichokes ready, but he is the only person that assembles and bakes the pie. He uses a special super hot oven that gets the crust to the perfect consistency and then pulls the boiling pizza out of the oven with his bare hands and tosses the parmigiano on top. The pizza is so hot the parmigiano melts! The walls of his shop are covered with articles claiming his pizza to be superior to most, if not all. You may have to wait for 40 minutes or so for a slice but it is absolutely worth it. Of course, you can buy your own whole pie. I've heard his entrees are superb too, but I've only ever gotten the pizza. Every time I'm in his shop I hear someone boasting about how far they came to get his pizza. Definitely worth the trip. Enjoy! |
"...then you MUST go to DiFara's Pizza in Midwood, Brooklyn"
Yes, he has great pizza. YUMMY!! |
Oh Man! Maris--send me a pie down here! mmm..sounds so good!
|
In Colorado, hoopstraveler15, our very favorites are: Hernando's in Winter Park, and the Wazee Supper Club in LoDo. Also, Angelo's, on Sixth Avenue east of downtown, is pretty good. Have you tried these?
:)>- |
Ah... my husband just reminded me that at DiFara's he grows his own basil and rosemary in the windows of his shop! It only gets better!!!
|
Zorro's in Loomis, CA. ((Y))
And if you buy Zorro a few beers you get free entertainment! |
No one said Dominoes? C’mon….
Best Pizza in San Luis Obispo, CA is “Fatties” on Broad Street. Huge hit here. Take out only. Chicken with white cream sauce is soooo good. No wonder it’s called Fatties! Also make the best veggie I’ve ever had, but who wants to call it “Skinnies?” :@) |
IMHO -- thw worst pizza in NYC is better than the best anywhere else!
In Goldens Bridge NY {in the A&P shopping center near the train station}, in northern Westchester Count & about an hour north of NYC "Portofino's" aka Dominic's has the BEST pizza/everything. Slices [come from a 24" pie] that are huge that you can get toppings added on [and then they always add some extra mozzerella on top of the toppings] too. Whole pies; salad slice; white pizza; patsa; wedges [aka grinders, subs] fish are all great. We ate there every Friday night for over 10 years. It is the first place I go to eat when I go home. I begged Dominic to move out to SW, but no go. Also, Venezia's in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho has the closest thing to NY pizza in NM. Good, but no cigar. Debi |
Thin-crust tomato pie - at DeLorenzos in Chambersburg section in Trenton, New Jersey
|
The best pizza I ever had was in Boston. I cant remember the place but the pizza was fantastico!!!!
I also dig the pizza in NY... |
A few years back on a biz trip to Mineapolis I ordered a pizza to my room from a local place that boasted gourmet pizzas.
It was not traditional...was a thai curry chicken pizza....which I ordered out of shear bravery on a cold night! IT BLEW MY SOCKS OFF!!!! Was so good I tried to recreate it when I got home. Anyone know the name of this place? |
