Where's That Drive-Thru Redwood?
Ever since I was a kid I remember seeing the picture of the road that goes through a redwood tree. Where in California is that tree?

There is a drive-through tree (though probably not the only one) in Leggett which is just at the intersection of Hwy 1 and Hwy 101.....I do think it used to be in schoolbooks--having driven through it, I wouldn't go too far out of my way for it!!! Maybe there are others....but it is a bit humorous, I must admit!

Drove thru this area last yeat, and the tree in Leggett that "Ms. Ghost" describes is the only one we heard of. We didn't drive through it, so can't comment on the experience. Those redwoods are amazing - drive through or not!

There was also one in the Maraposa Grove by Yosemite, but that one came down one winter years ago.

Been, there, drove that.
Thanks, everyone! We got to Legget - the tree was not far off the highway, well signed. I think it was $3.00 and a nice drive through the woods.
I got some good pictures. The camera wouldn't work so my wife drove around and came through again...

The sequoia that you remember as a kid (pictures) was located in Yosemite National park but fell in the early 70's. I'm not aware of the one in Leggett; it must be privately owned.

It's call the Chandelier Drive -Thru Tree and it's in Leggett. You can drive thru as many times as you want. Small admission fee, I was there about 6 years ago. It was fun!
