Where would you travel in North America with free airfare?

My husband and I just won 2 free tickets to fly anywhere in continental US, Canada, Mexico, or US Virgin Islands on Delta. If you had this opportunity, where would you travel? (We live in Southeastern US.)

Gardyloo Nov 16th, 2006 06:07 AM

When? Including Alaska?

turista2 Nov 16th, 2006 06:10 AM

No Alaska. We were thinking of traveling April-May.

For similar offers, I typically would use those on more expensive places for me to get too. So, Vancouver perhaps, or Nova Scotia would likely be my choices. Cabo might not be a bad idea either, if Delta flies there...

When we won 2 tickets on Southwest...we picked a place that was: far from home; that we had never been to; was non-stop [not easy for us flying out of ABQ]. We chose Seattle in August and it was wonderful! We loved it and took the train up to Vancouver fro 5 days.

My criteria would be to go to a place: where you've never been; has good ticket price [so you can feel you saved alot]; has the kind of weather you want; the types of restaurants and accomodations you can afford; is non-stop {don't want to waste time on the groudn}; whether you want to be in a city and no need for a car or in the country with a car; NYC to see Broadway shows; California coast, SW history and culture and mountains to explore.

Some things to think about and help you decided! Good luck!
Hope this helps...

How about San Fransico and a side trip either up to the wine country or down to Carmel and Hwy 1? Or, if you don't want a city trip how about waiting until fall and going to Glacier NP in MT? Can yo go to Hawaii? What are you interested in?

suestein Nov 16th, 2006 06:24 AM

I second San Francisco and adjoining area.

Seattle/Vancouver area is beautiful, too.

Go far!

yale Nov 16th, 2006 06:26 AM

US Virgin Islands is included? I'd fly to St. Thomas and head over to St. John.

What are your interests? Lazing on a beach, soaking up culture, museums, sight-seeing?

I'd pick Mexico in a nanosecond.

turista2 Nov 16th, 2006 06:37 AM

We are looking more for relaxation than museums. Mexico seems to be a popular (and affordable) choice. Any specific recommendations in Mexico?

happytrailstoyou Nov 16th, 2006 06:39 AM

Choose a place you have always wanted to visit or have longed to revisit; however, I don't know what those might be for your and your husband.

Right now SW has flights to Washington D.C. from Chicago for $59 one way. A deal.

If I got free right now, I would probably want to go to N.O. or Biloxi area. I want to return for two reasons and the drive is a bummer if you have only so much time.

GoTravel Nov 16th, 2006 07:07 AM

I'd go to St.Thomas or Cabo.

cmcfong Nov 16th, 2006 07:12 AM

Banff, Canada, July.

cmcfong Nov 16th, 2006 07:12 AM

oops, just saw your dates....San Diego.

trippinkpj Nov 16th, 2006 07:17 AM

CA Coast. Fly into San Diego or San Jose. I love Seattle & Vancouver, but you may still have cold & raining weather then.

Depends on the time of year:

August-November California

December - April Florida

May - July New England, New York

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions. We will have fun considering all of our options.

Cancun is easy to fly into - and then get the heck out of there and go south a bit to find peace and quiet on a beach - it exists.

starrsville Nov 16th, 2006 08:10 AM

Fly into Seattle or Vancouver and take the ferry over to Victoria, BC. Absolutely amazing Pacific NW territory - and Victoria is a bit of England in North America. Be sure to go to Butchart Gardens when you visit Victoria (when is on Vancouver Island) - while Vancouver is on the mainland).
