Where would you go in April?

Last week of April. Two boys ages 5 and 6. Where would you go in the US? We've done Disney and San Diego.

Likes: hiking, kid's museums, nature (mountains/lakes/ocean), the boys love walking around cities too.

I would look at Tuscon....lots of nature, museums, activities for children..Desert Botanical Museum Sabino canyon..

By Disney, I meant Orlando...and we are from New England.

Tuscon never crossed my mind....off to google. :)

When our kids were about that age, we did a Spring Break trip to Arizona and the next year we did our Spring Break trip to New Mexico. Both were great choices--lots of hiking and scenery, national parks, history, neat museums, etc.

I'd go to the desert southwest as well (Arizona or lower elevations of New Mexico and Utah). Moab would be great if you don't mind driving a bit to get there. Otherwise Phoenix/Tucson would be perfect.

My first thought was Tucson as well :-) Honestly, the weather is good to great pretty much everywhere in the US at the end of April, so you could go anywhere, especially if the boys like both cities and the great outdoors. Another thought would be San Francisco and environs.

Southern Utah Natl Park and Monuments: Arches, Canyonlands, Zion, Bryce, Escalante. If you are going during Easter Week, skip Moab and make reservations everywhere else.

Dayle Nov 1st, 2014 08:41 AM

In never keep track of Easter since it moves around. I guess you won't have to deal with that.

Just to be clear - in a week you could visit either Moab, Canyonlands, Arches. There is plenty to do there for a week with a new area/activity each day.

Or, you could do Zion, Bryce, Escalante, and Capitol Reef easily in a week.

Hike, horseback ride, canyoneering, rafting, ride ATVs, off roading, hot air balloons, mountain biking, scenic flights, even golf.

For just a little variety...

Philadelphia! There's a great kid's museum in a gorgeous Centennial Expo building: http://www.pleasetouchmuseum.org/

There's hiking and walking in the largest urban park, Fairmount Park (I recommend the Wissahickon, and/or the Tinicum Wildlife Reserve, and/or the Japanese House.) and, of course, an extremely walkable city with everything from a Fire Museum to ships to a vintage trolley to the smells and tastes of the Reading Terminal Market and on and on. http://missalg.tumblr.com/

It's generally pretty lovely in the spring.

SFO was our initial plan, but its so expensive.

Amy...we go to Philly often as my in-laws live there. It is a fun city.

AZ, Utah are in the running. Hubby also mentioned Puerto Rico. No passports needed, although I do have time to get them.

Charleston. Everyone will think I am one note--I always recommend it. But there is a LOT to do and see and great great food.
The plantations, aquarium, city walks, go to the beach and walk there, Bull Island just south for bird watching.
It could even be warm enough to at least wade in the ocean.

Orange County.

We went to Charleston once when our kids were on April vacation in Mass. It snowed. But I assure you that was probably the only time in a century.

I second Gretchen's recommendation. Look into renting a condo at Isle of Palms. Some places have indoor pools.

Two ideas:
1. Fly to Grand Junction CO and drive to Moab. Explore Arches and Canyonlands and/or Mesa Verde.

2. Fly to Vegas, and go to Zion, Bryce and Grand Canyon.

Puerto Rico is great.

What about Washington, DC?
