If you don't already have a good faith established, this is not really a place to find the answers. The wording is not conducive to explaining something like the WTC to a child. I'm not saying that what is said is wrong. But it merely quotes scripture. If my children were to ask that question and I were to JUST quote scripture at them, they would quickly inform me that I hadn't answered their question. And we are active in the church of our choice. <BR> <BR>If your child honestly asks that question and you don't have the answer, go speak to your pastor.

Noah, thank you...I have been trying to ask myself the same question..As a sometimes non-believer, I believe that God is giving us the strength and fortitude right now to carry on.

Thanks Parrotmom; it's the beginning of what has turned out to be a story I've been telling my grandaughter. Because after I told her that, the next day she wanted to know what God did after he did those things, and now I've gotten carried away. But here was the next episode: Yesterday God was in the delivery room of the two new babies who lost their daddies; He kissed them and told them where their daddies are and that they would be watching over them for their whole lives. The babies understood God even though they won't understand English for a few years. Then he left those hospitals and travelled to Washington, D.C., and whispered in the ears of all the members of Congress and all those who serve in Washington. He whispered, "It's time to do good." And right now he is resting, and watching, and deciding where he needs to be next.

Those are better answers for children. All I could think of at the time I responded were a little deep for here.

Noah, the story you have created for your granddaughter to explain this horrible tragedy brought tears to my eyes. It sounds as though she if fairly young, but definitely understands a great horror has occurred. On the other hand, a friend of mine with a 12-year old son says that her son doesn't talk about the event at all or ask any questions. At his school, they are actually told not to talk about what happened. Does this boy's reaction, or lack of one, seem normal? What about the school's policy?

God was with the firefighters and policemen who rushed into help the victims and lost their lives in the line of duty.

Noah, you have touched me deeply. Why do people kill in the name of God? A picture that stays with me is the one of the firefighters carrying out their priest who had taken off his helmet to pray with a fallen firefighter..he was talking with God at that moment, the look on his face..From the Crusades on killing has been done in the name of God..If God came down right now I think he'd be pretty upset at what is being done in his name. (I've censored myself). <BR> <BR>As for the child not being allowed to talk about the WTC that is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG...children should be encouraged to discuss their feelings at school and at home..

My in-laws live in the Pittsburgh area. We live in the South. During PE on the 11th, the middle school students were not allowed outside. They let them watch then news reports instead. Without realizing that a plane had crashed south of Pgh, my 11yo became very upset - knowing that her grandparents "live up north." One of the teachers pulled her out of class, got on the internet and showed her how far Pittsburgh is from NYC. They gave her the information she needed to calm down. They did NOT tell her a plane went down near Pittsburgh. I'm very pleased with the way they've handled the situation.
