Where to take teen for summer beach trip?

Hi there, looking at destinations for a week long summer trip in the US. Taking my 17 year old son and a friend. Here is the criteria, but am open to anywhere in the US:
2 bedrooms (condo, hotel, house apt etc) on the ocean
Beach with calm surf
Safe to walk at night
Town close by for teens to check out on their own
Other activities that teens enjoy would be great
Under $6k for 5-6 nights
Needs to be warm enough to swim in late May/Early June

Thanks for any insight, I've been doing a ton of research and found a few spots but am looking for other recommendations too. Thanks so much!

Maybe a resort in Clearwater Beach, FL would fit the bill.

Check out Pensacola Beach.

The North Carolina barrier islands

The Jersey Shore

Delaware beaches

Long Island

Cape Cod

All are great beach destinations

If you stick to the east coast and plan to swim, i would stick to beaches in Maryland or farther south. The water in the north is really cold in May, of course the water on the west coast is always cold.

I can't imagine swimming at Cape Cod, Jersey, etc, in late May. I would limit it to FL or SC beaches, like Myrtle Beach, Clearwater, etc. I wouldn't even do DE or Maryland.

The Gulf has calmer waters than the east coast, though, so that would be a good option.

Have no reference on costs for a 2 BR condo on the beach, though. FL generally can be reasonable, seems to me, relatively. Trying to find something right ON the beach may be more difficult, as that is limited, of course. You can easily stay even in Naples FL which would be great for activities and stuff for less than $1000 a day. Here's a 2 BR condo place very close to the beach in central Naples for only about $3K a week

Oh yes, I read summer beach trip. Late May/early June is hardly what I would describe as summer. Yes we might have summer-like weather north of D.C, or we could have cool and rainy weather. Florida would actually be good as past high season and so probably could get a good rate. The Outer Banks of NC would also likely be a good destination

Check out South Padre Island outside Corpus Christi Texas.

The water is murky at South Padre Island. Not sugary powder white sand either.
