Where to take free 3 night trip anywhere in the continental u.s.?
My husband won a 3 night trip for us anywhere in the continental United States. We are getting overwhelmed deciding where to go. I am hoping to get ideas of favorite cities to visit. We've been to New York, Boston, Phoenix, so those are out. My husband wants to go somewhere he hasn't been. I'd love to hear some ideas, and also what to do in those cities. We will probably travel in September if that makes any difference. Thank you!

You don't say where you would be traveling from and if that might be a consideration.
But...what about San Francisco? Tons of things to keep a couple occupied both in the city or the surrounding environs for a few days.
Or Seattle?

What kind of things you like to do? Hiking? Lying on the beach? Shopping? Museums? Food & Wine?
September is a great time to visit anywhere, I don't think it makes much of a difference.
Where are you living now? That's no point of recommending a place for you if you live right there!

What types of things do you like to do? Golf? Hike? Shop? Eat? etc.
That would help with suggestions?
But without that info and off the top of my head:
Seattle
Palm Springs
San Diego
Florida Keys
Bermuda (some airlines consider that continental US!)
Chicago

Good points. We live in Wisconsin. Probably not too much danger of that being recommended. I love living here, though! We enjoy eating, hiking, museums. I like a walk on the beach, but not much more than that. We basically like to do the touristy things where ever we are. We are pretty flexible.

Southern California is perfect that time of year. I suggest Laguna Beach.

First, make sure you check on that "deal". Sometimes, they give you a companion-type airline ticket and it's impossible to go anywhere but Cleveland or Peoria. My ashes are being taken to Mendocino, if that indicates how much I love that place. Never been to Chicago? Chicago is a GREAT city- very easy to get around, lots to do, should be great in Sept.

Well, it's not a "deal" that we have to worry about. He won the trip from his place of employment. There are no hidden requirements. We just need to pick a place to go, and they'll pay for it. We make the airline, hotel and meal reservations and give them the bill.

LLindaC - Wow, that looks awesome. I've never stayed anywhere THAT expensive, and don't think they'd go for that. It has to be reasonable, probably around $300 a night would be okay. Hopefully, you have another awesome suggestion!

Warning, the website isn't a fraction of how nice the inn really is. They receive all kinds of awards and recognition.
