Where to take a detour from CT casinos to NY?
 
We are from NYC and staying in New London for part of Labor Day weekend. We want to go somewhere else from Sun - Mon but not sure where. We were looking into Cape Cod, Providence, Block island, Martha's Vineyard, Orient Point, Catskills and others.

Trying to find someplace where we wouldn't have to spend $300 for the night and can make it back to NYC by 2pm without killing ourselves.

Does this option exist? We're open to ideas in NY, CT, MA, VT and NH. Trying to keep it within a 4 hr drive of NYC.

I would not advise leaving the Cape on Labor Day!

How about Newport, RI? Lodging is more reasonable in the next town Middletown.

You could always just drive to Stonington, Mystic, etc. for a nice waterside lunch.

Late notice, and I would assume the Cape and Martha's Vineyard and Block Island are probably booked..... I'm not sure what type of scenary you're looking for - but take a look at Essex, CT or heading straight up Rt 9, to Rt 91 and go towards VT. You don't say how long you have - but you you'll need several days to make it worth going too far. But - Essex, Old Saybrook or Old Lyme might be nice and relaxing.

The Days Inn in Middletown (Next to Newport) has rooms for $99.

it seems like hopping on the ferry and going to Orient or Southold on the North Fork of LI would be nice. You could visit some wineries, or get in a little beach time, and the drive to New York might be only about 2 hours. Well...obviously it will be longer than that on the Monday of Labor Day weekend, but thats going to be true of a lot of drives.
