The experts rate Sebastian Inlet as the best surfing spot on the east coast. Nearby Melbourne Beach has hotels and good surfing. Melbourne Beach is 70 miles SE of Orlando Airport.
Melbourne Beach has a Doubletree, Hilton and Crown Plaza that are all fine hotels.

We love going to Cocoa Beach and there are always a lot of people surfing there.

There is no surfing on the West Coast because there aren't any waves.

Where are you staying?

If they are beginners, I'd suggest a random beach break near where you are staying (I assume on the East coast). Your kiddos will not have fun with the locals at Sebastian or Ponce if this is only their second time on a board.

We spend a few days at Sebastian Inlet every summer to do surfing and boogie boarding. It can get busy (crowded in the water) during weekends. Lots of locals show up and the surf area can get quite hectic. If possible, visit during the week. My son (avid surfer) has also gone surfing with friends and stayed in Melbourne (the Doubletree, I think)where they surfed right "out back" of the hotel. He said the waves were as good as at Sebastian (but with less people) and the hotel was great. Not sure if he just got lucky with the conditions or if the conditions there tend to be good. Also, be aware that there is no guarantee for waves at either location. In general, the earlier in summer we go, the better the waves. Our August trip last year was almost a bust.
