Where to stop, Richmond to St. Louis?

My daughter and I will be driving from Richmond, VA to St. Louis in late August. It looks to be about a 13 hour trip on Rt. 64, at least according to Mapquest.

She's returning to college, so we're not meandering, but I'm wondering where would be a nice place to stop for a night?

Thanks for any suggestions.

me being me, i would stop to see the state capitols in virginia, west virginia, and kentucky,.since you will be traveling thru all three respective cities.

i would say to spend the night somewhere between louisville, frankfort, and lexington.

Among those three cities, Louisville, Lexington and Frankfort, is one especially nice? I've never been to any of them; it will be fun to see someplace new.

Lexington has the Horsepark, Frankfort has the capital, and Louisville has Churchill Downs and the Louisville Slugger Museum.

Louisville is quite a bit larger than Lexington. Frankfort is downright tiny.

Lexington is already over halfway from Richmond. I'll stop around there.

There is a nice Marriott in Lexington. It is called the Marriott Griffin Gate hotel. We stayed there a few years ago.
Also, I believe there is a brand new Embassy Suites in Lexington as well.
Lexington will be more of a small town than Louisville.

We just did this drive a few weeks ago - it took 12 hours with some good stops in between.

I agree that Lexingotn would be a nice spot to sopr for the night, It is so pretty and there are decent hotels and restaurants.
The remainder will be a peice of cake - perhaps 4-5 hours - tops.

Have fun!
