Where to stop for Po Boys and Cajun food on I-10?
Now being from San Antonio, I know that the best Mexican restaurants are the little hole in the wall types that you will never find in a tourist guide book and I would imagine that would hold true for the Po Boys and Cajun food of Louisiana.
I would like to find somewhere inexpensive that the locals eat at. Somewhere not far from I-10 since I am just passing through. I will probably spend the night in Baton Rouge although I'll probably stop to eat somewhere before there.

Speaking of food, I was just doing some late night prep work for Thanksgiving tomorrow. How I wish we were going to Bayona in New Orleans for their four course prix fixe Thanksgiving instead of me preparing the meal!
On to your question- the first place that came to mind was Prejean's in Lafayette, which is about an hour away from Baton Rouge. Prejeans (their website is prejeans.com) is about 1.5 to 2 miles off I-10. Various types of gumbo have won the restaurant many awards (it's one of the biggest sellers at Jazz Fest in NO). I don't know if you plan on going for lunch, but if so, they have Po Boys available (can't remember if they do for dinner, too).
At any rate, look at their website if you'd like more information.

Thanks, that looks great! I can't believe they have crawfish enchiladas!
Not much of a price list but the ranges that they give look reasonable.
Is it far off of I-10? Easy to get to?

thanks for the Prejeans tip, it's a nice website. We will be in Baton Rouge next September for ship's reunion. Heading for Natchitoches afterwards and now plan to stop at Prejeans for lunch. Any great sights to see in Lafayette?

We like the Acadian Village. You'll be in for a treat if you have time to have a bite at Café des Amis in Breaux Bridge, and if you can make it on Saturday morning, they have a cajun band for the breakfast crowd!;-)

Second the Acadian Village recommendation.
Lafayette has so many festivals and weekend things going on downtown. Google their tourism board website for a calendar b/c there is usually something interesting going on.

Tried Prejeans and it was very good. Not exactly what I was looking for but no regrets. A bit heavy on the wallet. $50-$60 for 2.
Would like to find a little "shack" under a bridge where their Cajun accents are so strong that you can hardly understand them.

Julien's Restaurant on University Ave. ( exit off I-10 on University). This is where locals really do eat lunch- po-boys, fried shrimp, oysters, and alligator tails! You will probably see my husband and others from his office there a couple of days a week. And Po-boys are $5-$6 apiece there.
