Where to stop between Las Vegas and Yosemite?

We are looking for a good place to stop for the night between Las Vegas and Yosemite in mid-June. We'd like to have a short drive to Yosemite in the the morning. Any suggestions on a good place to stay, as well as points of interest along the way?

Thanks

We usually stay in Mammoth (right on highway 395) there is a Best Western in town. However, area around June Lake is also nice. The drive the next day would be fairly easy--up over Tioga Pass
Hope this helps..

You might consider taking the route that allows you to drive through Death Valley. Should you decide to do this check to see if Tioga Pass in Yosemite is open. The pass doesn't usually open until mid to late June.

Tioga Pass is open now. The update to this was May 24, 02. See:http://www.nps.gov/yose/now/conditions.htm

We stay in Mammoth each summer and the trip to Yosemite from there is pretty short. Lots of places to stay in Mammoth. If you can't make it to Mammoth try staying in Bishop which is about 30 minutes south of Mammoth. At the north end of town there is quite a bit of lodging.

Does anyone have an idea how long it should take to drive from Vegas to the outskirts of Yosemite via the Tioga Pass route discussed above?

It's about 7 1/2 hours driving straight from Las Vegas to Lee Vining whihc is the entry to Tioga Pass. It's like 350 miles.

Can't tell you how long from Lee Vining to Yosemite Valley because we stop so much on the way! :)
